Try an online chat application?

Off the top of my head, have you guys tried or thought about putting in a chat application so users can chat to each other live? Java-based chat comes to mind...or is it Javascript?

We have tried IRC and some other ways. That didn't work like expected. So I guess, no.

Chat rooms kill forums.

Besides - with a forum, you can join in on a conversation whenever you get the time. With a chat, you miss everything unless you are logged in when its said.
