Am I alone in thinking about what this kind of technology (now that it's coming available for the general public) could do for our community?

Tarquin, you live in some sort of time warp eh? That was kinda breaking news back in January when it was released.

Yes... I live in a cave these days. I got season tickets to my favorite team. I'm in school for my third bachelor's and my first master's (yes, both - at once), and I still work more than full time. Yes, I live in a cave. I haven't had time to do anything but survive and masturbate. I know women exist because I see them here, otherwise I'd think they were a myth. Thank you for bringing up such a painful topic.

Anyway, if it's old news... Is there a way we could/should/might incorporate something like this into WBW?

Whilst the technology is there I am sure Apple Inc. have got so many patents and copyrights around it that they wont be letting it out of their hands for a while ....

We don't have to violate their copyrights. We (and by "we" I mean "Someone who knows more than me" can look to see how they did it and build our own code to do the same thing.

Vegas has had facial recognition kinda shit forever. So I doubt Apple can hold patents on the technology itself, just on whatever software they're producing now.

It definitely has some uses but it's also another deadly blow to privacy and I think it's a lot more bad then good. Imagine google having this attached to their image search (and they will at some point) and you could just upload a picture of your mom and all of a sudden BAM 100 images of your mom gettin gang banged in her college days.

Or you go to apply for a job and your new prospective boss uploads a pic of you to google and then BAM there you are snorting a line of cocaine off a strippers ass in a picture you didn't even know existed. See where I'm goin with this?

Bad BAD stuff.

Why the obsession of getting rid of duplicated posts ? I can see if the post has be duplicated within a few days and or a few months (3-6 months) then they should be removed, I've done it, but older than that... who cares. Many people don't sign in every day and/or view every pic. To a new visitor all posts are new and aren't dup's. Nothing's more frustrating than commenting, rating and saving to favorites a shot to my liking and then find it gone, presumably because it was identified as a dup..

Because if we can find the dupes and MERGE them rather than delete them, everyone wins. As it sits, it's annoying to see multiples of the same girls, and it does take system resources to have that many dupes.

It's just cleaner and more efficient if we get rid of the dupes for users, the system and mods.

Also bear in mind this could seriously help with those "who's that girl" stuff as well.

Google's Picasa also does face recognition, but I don't see any way that you could use that on this site.

I agree with Tarquin, javascript:void; I get really annoyed when I keep seeing duplicates.
Personally I reckon that about 20% of pics posted (thats 1 in 5 for the mathmatically challenged) are now duplicates. ie I spotted the following just now, all the same picture posted 9 times. and its a sod to report each one.

The first link ain't the same as the rest.

As far as the duplicates goes, with over a million pictures in the galleries, it's impossible for moderators to know every single picture in there, not to mention all the pictures previous moderators, who are no longer on the crew, approved. Duplicates are inevitable.

Then couple this problem with the all the complaints about pictures not being approved, and you have a situation in which you can please neither group.

I don't know how you would suggest we go about eliminating this issue.

I completely see where you're going with this, Tarquin, and I agree that it's a good idea to merge the same gir's pics in the same group while deleting the ones that are EXACTLY the same pic.
Think of the sets that could be made by automatically gathering all the same girl's pics spread throughout the forums.
There are companies that make this type of software, the idea itself is not patented... there's also software that "reads" images too, like license plates etc. using the same principle.

Picasa does the same thing.

Surely there is some sort of server based application out there that can go through the WBW Babe files finding and pointing out duplicate images (not necessarily deleting, leave that to the mods, so the one with the least comments etc. can be deleted) surely there is a program out there that can match by image content and not take into account resolution/dpi/slight crop's, slight photoshops etc. and provide a list of all images that are say 95% similar or above?

Zulu..

I thought you meant me when you said Ultimate Dupe Hunter though

Edit:
http://www.codeplex.com/DupliFinder

Ok so now if this was server based and checked upon upload of pics.. would be awesome, would be a bitch to implement though.

Thanks for the Explaination, and your right i dont know the answer.
I can appreciate the problem and I uploaded my share of dups before I was familiar with the pics online.
My problem is ive been tagging a lot and I sort of have a photographic memory (no joke ) (which im trying to get developed (joke :-)), so can see the pics and duplicates but it takes forever to type out the address and report them so ive only been able to manage 2 or 3 hundred a day so far.

for instance I spotted these just now and dont think any have been tagged yet.

I guess till some recognition software filters down to the mainstream its a small burdon to put up with, compared to what the site gives.
