Screen Ergonomics or am I using too many thumbs?

Maybe it's becauseI'm new but when I open a picture and want to (a) addher to my favourites, (b) give her a rating and (c) add a comment, the screen refreshes three times.

The constant refreshing makes it so slow that it discourages me from rating and commenting. Before you ask, I am on 512k Broadband.

Surely, the only reason for the refreshes is to allow people to see the impact of their ratings on the average and to see their comments in print.

Well, I could live without both of those. My preference is to be allowed to do whatever rating, adding to favourites and commenting and for the system to add them in only when I leave. If I want to see my impact, I can go back to it.

I will tell you about those nice internet browsers they make these days:
(a) You load the page, the page is stored on your HD (cached),
(b) Second time you refresh the page, your browser looks if anything is changed on the page.. for example the html it self is changed.. it reloads the html.. but NOT the images! Because image is still the same!
(c) After all you have downloaded about 10 / 20 kb

Well, I will reply despite the sarcasm. I know well how browsers work. I have several hundred Mb devoted to my cache. It works well and fast - normally!

However, when refreshing screens on your site, I typically wait 20 seconds for the whole thing to reappear. This is not normal for other sites.

So, when I add a comment, (wait 20 secs), add a rating (wait 20 secs) and then add to my favourites (wait another 20 secs), I have spent a minute on one picture. This is not practical.

well, as far as I know we haven't had any other complaints about this. I have broadband aswell and pages load within seconds, even when applying all three refreshes. perhaps something else on your computer is slowing your internet down? try shutting down firewalls, antivirusprogramms and kazaa (and alike) and try again. perhaps your bandwith is sucked up by other programs...

i know the pic pages redirect to a page telling you your comment & alike is being done when you first do it, but that only takes a few secs. not sure what should be causing the hold up. id try camelknight's ideas first

Glad it's not just me. My Broadband is 512k - when I started in this game, BBS ran at 2.4k!

But, to reply to CamelKnight, I run Zonealarm and Norton AV. The only other thing that I can think that accesses the internet without asking is, of course, Windows Update and God knows what it gets up to! Just like 'Windows Task Manager', is there anything that tells you what apps are accessing using your bandwidth at any one time.
