I agree that it's crude and representative of ignorance (usually) and I typically really don't like when people use the word.

However, I have to wonder if those who do use it use it with any hatred. Particularly because it's quite commonplace in certain areas of the country and with a younger demographic. When it's just a more common term, it seems people don't really think of the inherent meaning behind it.

And the meaning of words change, too. At my college, the gay rights organization called themselves queers because gay incorrect for whatever reason... represents a heterodominant society's attempt to subrogate or some shit. I don't buy it, but whatever.

the word ignorant is always used in the negative, when it is not, ignorant means that you dont know enough about a subject to speak intelligently about it. I HATE when people try to use it in the negative, which is incorrect. I am IGNORANT about space travel....

First of all you need to learn spelling....there are two g's in the word. Next, I argee with the comments about the young people using the word. They also use the word "gay" when they disagree or don't like something. Time to grow up people and learn the English language. This also means the youngsters need to learn where and when to use the word "like". Please stop saying "I was like, and he was like, and she was like".....etc etc etc. Please say "I'm sorry" instead of "my bad".........I could go on and on, but most of you on this site wouldn't understand. Oh....and another thing.....stop using the letter "u" in place of an "i" and a "z" in place of an "s".....i.e. "gurlz".......no such word......again it's time to grow up people. I'm sure the moderators of this site are going to take offence at my comments but I really don't care what they think and if they don't like my comments, that means they aren't all that intelligent or mature.

Unfortunately only the ignorant amongst us get riled up by such things. Besides it is only recently that it began being used to disparage an entire group of people. Really if you think about it, there is no difference in calling someone a fagot and calling them gay, neither words definition was ever related to sexual orientation until someone starting using them as such.
