locked topics

I have noticed a big increase in locked topics since the instituion and enforcement of the new rules. I understand the rules, and think they are enforced for the right reasons. What I don't understand is why you mods don't just remove the whole post, so it is seen by none. I know that there is a microscopic padlock on the display, but who wants to squint. If it is locked for copyright reasons, get rid of it. I don't think all locked topics should be erased, as in somecases you want to see how it evoloved. In the case of a removed link for copyright material, well it just takes up space.
If I am way off on this please explain.

Why does it matter? Some do get deleted, some get locked...it's nothing to lose sleep over.

Forums are ranked on a numbere of things such as number of members, post, topics, etc content.

If we remove these, the forum ranking drops.

I don't know really if we have all that many new rules. But they are often adjusted for different reasons. And the reason at least I try to leave some threads locked in the open is because people like to see the reasons and that way they might learn at least a little about the rules since they are so stupid not to read them in full in the first place.
