i know there is a long "to do" list......but: how about an ignore feature...for example: if someone who constantly posts stuff that is offensive/upstting/stupid like...oh i dont know....his first name starts with "fadetoblack" the rest ill leave up to you (unfortunately, this is my fav metallica song)...anyway...how about an ignore function so you dont have to hear from members who have nothing but total bullshit to say? or people who seem to feel that members here are "gay " "dumbasses" or "assholes"....if this is how some people feel, why do they deserve to be members still?.....anyway, my point is...can we get an ignore button to censor these morons if we dont want to hear their crap? fadetoblack is sending me moronic pms...that are offensive and upsetting...i dont want to hear them anymore.

well...the scandinavians are on board....
i think i could be simple, most chat systems ahve an ignore feature...why cant we block out these idiots we dont want to see? just a "block user" function...i know we have the know how here...lets get it done

Lacking an "ignore" feature just delete any messages from somebody you don't want to hear from. Don't open them.

I think Diz is planning a 'Block messeges from a certain person' thing.

If I am done with some more moderator functions I will get working on a new design of the private message system, and let you block people out. This is allready on the todolist. I know I am lazy these couple of weeks but some private stuff had to be solved first, WBW is getting more and more a day job for me. One of the first priorities is the speed of the site, secondly it's bugs and features.

If somebody abuses the private message system to harm you in any way for example spam, insults, stalking. Please let one of the crew know we will look into the matter, and send a warning to the person, if he goes on we will ban the sucker.

Also Diz,

I have no idea what would be involed in doing this, but could the site be made to have the same pics on the same page number every time(instead of them shifting down as pics are approved). Its no big thing, just requires some time searching to get back to where you were last looking.

Bayou_baron: I think it will be a difficult task to do this. Only way it could be done is to order the pictures inc instead of desc.

A little off the subject. How did a Norweigan get to Minneapolis and Duluth. Duluth was settled by Finlanders and Minneaplis by Swedes. I was raised in Wisconsin where there are a lot of Norweigans in the central part and Swedes up north and also in the UP of Michigan. Sorry to get off the subject. I have spent considerable time in Minnesota and don'e ever even meeting a Norweigan there....YOU ARE UNIQUE!! By the way, when you go to any Scandanavian country you will be an American period, I know I have been there. Good luck and may your Viking ship stay afloat and your sword never break!

well, ellis, you couldnt be more wrong there are many MANY norwegians here. matter of fact i was at a scandinavian meeting last night put on by swedes there were as many norwegians as swedes. the swedes and norwegians just didnt live in the same areas, doesnt mean there arent any norwegians, also, just because a city is founded primarily by one ethnic people doesnt mean that those are (or ever were) the only ethnic peoples there. duluth for example has the largest african american segment in the state, per capita. st.paul was founded by the irish, but you are more likely to see a german there....(thats a guess on my part) many people in my field of study (scandinavian studies at the Uof M) are norwegian too....
heres some examples of norwegians in minnesota, im far from unique in my norwegian-ness here: http://lcweb.loc.gov/rr/genealogy/bib_guid/norway.html

heres another link...scroll down to see about norwegians in MN
http://www.mnsu.edu/emuseum/history/mnstatehistory/norwegian_migration.html
also it mentions the large population of norwegians in duluth
heres a map of norwegian settlement in minnesota: http://www-map.lib.umn.edu/bessie/minnesota/county/norwegian.html

matter of fact i am going to attend a church that preaches only in norwegian....in conclusion, there are many of us here....

ellis, EricTheViking and others like you: If you "nordic-americans" come to visit nordic countries, you should tell the people who you are in contact with that you have nordic blood in your wains, it will most propably increase everybodys interest in you and might fade the 'just another american'-mark on your forehead

And most of us have nothing against american, I myself kind of like you guys
There are some great qualities in you the people and your nation that I like a lot.
Somehow I especially like this "this is america, if you don't like, go away"-attitude, its good to be proud of yourself and you country and being alble to live like you want

And to Eric: If someone is bugging you, contact the crew like diz said, send a copy of the insulting message(s) to someone of us and will handle the punk if it's nessessary

wit- just so you know, your message to me about finnish gods was read by me in front of class today...im going to be a great teacher someday

trust me, when im in scandinavia everyone knows i am of scandinavian descent...in iceland they thought i was icelandic and spoke to me in icelandic first, english second (engelsk er du snill!!!)...they thought i was icelandic. since i speak norwegian i dont get that "just american" mark, im norwegian!

yeah, this guy has been contacted by diz himself, he will no longer bother me, or he will not be here any longer....either way is fine with me. if he lived near me id track him down myself.....but since the internet is annonimous, we will have to deal with him a bit differently...in any case he is done

Glad I could help you
I feel proud like a father, someone really has read my text in front of masses

I really am happy that you are so proud of your nordic roots, it's good to know that we (nordic people) are appreciated in the other side of the world.
Could you tell me what are the general feelings towards us back there?

Good to know that the problem is solved!

well, im a bit biased for many reasons, one is i am a scandinavian studies major, so i know more about scandinavia than "the average" american, also im rabidly proud of my heritage, and as it so happens im taking a class right now about american perspectives/thoughts/attitudes of scandinavia, called "images of scandinavia", .....so, im not going to give you the answer many folks would.

i have an article about this somewhere....

i can tell you that from what i know, most people know that scandinavians have a very high standard of living.
many people think they are all blond and blue eyed (like me!!!)
i think they are generally thought of as a clean environmentally friendly group of people.
my roomie and i were talking about the difference between "nordic" and "scandinavian" today...

anyway (even though finland is a bit different from norway/sweden/denmark) i think all in all scandinavians are looked at in a positive light.

maybe someone else will post on this subject....

Well, you might be just a bit biased

From where I see it, the most differences between norway, sweden, denmark and finland are language and climate The 'way of life' is mostly the same in all of them, and there a LOT of other similarities aswell...

Finland and sweden especially are very similar countries in most aspects, that might have something to do with the fact that finland was part of sweden for a long period in history..

Btw: from what you can see from my avatar, I'm long way from blond hair and blue eyes

Oh My Gosh!!!! You have misinterpreted everything that I said and have taken it personal. My apologies. Let me explain. I REALLY didn't know that there were Norweigans in the Minneapolis area. When I visit my relatives (all Swedes) that was who I met, Swedes. Same in Duluth, Fins. So simmer down and relax I am not your enemy. I had a Great Uncle that moved back to Sweden to retire and I visited him. I was greated warmly by EVERYONE. I would walk in a room and people would start talking in english(they like to practice their skills.) I am a fourth generation pure blood and was raised by my Grandparents. I feel very close to all Scandanavians and carry some of the same traits of proficiency, quality, workmanship, education,& cleanliness. I was taught that it is better to have two things of quality than a whole shitload of crap from Wallmart. We shouls also include Denmark. The Swedes and Finlanders settled white Russia establishing trade routes all the way to Italy. Northern Russians along with Latvia, Estonia, & Lithuania and the four basic Scandanmavian countries are of the same gene pools. As Wit_ said the similarities are remarkable. To you The Finish were the only people that repaid the US for the help that they got from us during the 1stWW. We ate the rest of the bill for Europe. I hope this will satisfy you Eric (also my sons name is Eric and his daughter is Erica) we are all Scandanavians through and through. I wish My Grandparents had taught be the language...they are dead and gone. I still eat Herring for almost every meal, also Lutfisk, Lefsa, Sulta, Limpa, and a potato sausage that I not sure of how to spell. Here goes: Pota-tes-corb! Well this is turning into a book. Again sorry for any misunderstanding and when in Minneapolis I"ll buy.

i didnt take it personal, i wasnt upset at all, so i wont simmer down That’s why I had all the smilies just thought you were saying there were no norwegians in minneapolis, and if thats what someone thinks they are VERY wrong, it doesnt upset me, just rectifying i never thought we were enemies at all and i was never upset in any way. actually it made me work a bit and find some interesting sites about norwegian emigration/immigration, so im thankful for misunderstanding you.
i hate lutefisk...yuck!! pickled herring though....now im with ya! and when you are in minneapolis you can certainly buy i will gladly drink!! skål!!

ps a drunk norwegian told me the other night the reason scandinavians say "skål" is because the vikings didnt carry/have glassware so they would remove the tops of their enemies heads...fill the skull with mead, clink the skulls together and say skål!!! (its a better joke in person)

pps wit thanks as always for fun info about finland!!!
