Download Speed problem(s) for movies.

I am having persistent download speed problems. Slow download speed of about ~50 KB/s. Also, video files are cut short, often with a 'timeout' or 'slow connection' message (using Chrome).
I sent an email ten days ago to Support@WBW, but there has been no response so far.

The symptoms are almost exactly described in this previous topic from last year:
http://whatboyswant.com/forums/read/155488/Problem_With_Movie_Download.html

Any tech help is much appreciated!

If you download something somewhere else on the internet, do you also have this problem or not ?
I just tried downloading a couple vids and speed was fine.

My download speed from the site is fine.

It is most likely a problem with your connection to the site than the site itself. I'd suggest running a trace to see how many stops you have to WBW's servers.

As you can see, AT&T is shit, but still decent speed to WBW.

Other websites seem fine. Getting 150 KB/s from a friend's private server. Also just updated OpenOffice and getting ~300 KB/s.

I don't know what all this traceroute information means. Time to do my research. *edit* Okay. I just read about traceroute on wikipedia (third best site on the web?) and it seems the times listed below indicate I have a connection which is just fine: about 220ms round trip.

One thing you could try is to reboot your modem/router. Sometimes, for some reason I still don't get, I get extremely slow connection only on a few sites and it solves the problem. I just did it right now as I was having issues with chickupload.

LM, everything appears normal (a little sluggish at spots, but normal). Maybe your ISP is throttling WBW.

Try switching DNS servers to OpenDNS or GoogleDNS.

I originally tried switching to GoogleDNS on my computer's settings, and there was no change.

Next, I set my modem/router (provided by ISP) to use the GoogleDNS. There seems to be about a 100% improvement, as speeds are ranging from ~60~100 KB/s, sometimes as much as 125 for moments. Also, none of the downloads timed out or terminated unexpectedly.

The modem/router DNS settings only seemed available for IPv4, and not IPv6. Does that make a difference for browsing and downloading from WBW? I'll look into the difference between IPv4 and IPv6 a bit more, as well as checking the settings once again. Plus, I'll try using OpenDNS

One thing I did notice, is that I can download up to six videos at once all at about the same speeds. So the best way to improve my WBW experience is probably to watch a LotMore.

I'll keep posting updates as I plod through this. And thank you both for your assistance!

You're welcome

(I have no idea about the IPv4 and IPv6 difference ^^)

Hi there. Thought I would chime in. I've seen some drastic slowdowns lately myself. I just tried the GoogleDNS and OpenDNS tricks, but with no improvement. At present, I am downloading a movie from WBW at 8.3 KB/sec, whereas I just downloaded a move from another site at 2.5 MB/sec. I've actually been seeing this about a month, which actually spanned ISP's as well (changed from Xfinity to FIOS).

Here's my traceroute after I changed back to auto DNS:

Any further thoughts? I do notice that it is sensitive to the time of day, but I wouldn't have expected such a severe drop.

I am also getting some really slow download and streaming speeds .... It's 7.2kb a sec at the moment ... Has been like this for a couple of days ... Everything else on the site is fine ... Just the movies section

Same issue - slow download speeds periodically when downloading movies (regardless of the size of the movies), but no issue streaming the movies or downloading pictures. Tried rebooting modem/router and tried using Google/Open DNS - nothing works. No issues downloading from any other site and traceroute shows typical 147-188 ms time. No indication that it is anything but Whatboyswants server.

In addition, when I don't have slow speeds, I have normal speed but constant server error failures or just random downloads stopping partially through the download. I renew my subscription every 6-8 months for a period of a month and I always have this issue. The only time that I did not have an issue was a while ago when I subscribed for a full year. This leads me to believe that the site is intentionally throttling month (and possibly 60 day) users to prevent them from downloading too many movies during their subscription period - ensuring they will have to renew.

It would be interesting if everyone who is having issues posted their subscription type so that we cant see if there is a pattern to who's being throttled and who isn't. For now, I've cancelled my subscription and will not be renewing.

We are looking into these issues, one of these is the load balancer that is failing sometimes. This could result in some issues and we are working very hard to fix these. Hopefully this helps in correcting the problems you are having... We do not throttle any download speeds, they should be at full speeds at anytime.

Today our new load balancing server came in, and we are waiting to install it and test some load balancing software that's on the market to better our availability and download speeds.

We will keep you updated on our progress.

We have resolved the problems with our load balancer. We are still testing some newer software to speed up wbw even more. Again, we will keep you updated on our progress.
