Automated Pruning

Automated pruning. A lot of forum engines have it, but WBW does not have it, and it has become abundantly clear as of the big forum glitch. There are a lot of empty (purpose), reply-less threads, and ones devoid of content (pic/vid/file) just there. A lot of which just take up space.

So my suggestion is a monthly automated pruning. Every month on the same day, the server automatically deletes these threads/posts:

- Have no replies.
- Have less than 5 replies.
- Have posted a url that is blacklisted. (maybe make that instant)
- Have had the file attachments removed.
- Have been posted by people with under 10 posts.
- Have been rated poorly or reported often.

But on the flipside, give users the option to keep the thread on the forum by voting for it to stay or not. Maybe a lil button at the bottom of the post or something.

Why?

Too keep the size of the database smaller, which means it will be faster, and suffer less problems.

1. Obviously this should only apply to posts that have been there at least a month, otherwise this would delete almost all threads started within an hour or so of the pruning.
2. Pruning a thread with no replies seems reasonable, I can't argue with that.
3. Pruning a thread with less than five replies may not be so great, there are some such threads that are good despite the fact that the replies are minimal.
4. Pruning a thread that has a blacklisted URL would have to depend upon a couple of things. If it is the first post in the thread it would not be unreasonable but what if the blacklisted URL is in the tenth post by a third person. If this feature was so automated I could have all Kanzen's posts automatically deleted by posting a blacklisted URL. Hmmm....this could be interesting. [Even if you relegated it to only the first post, you would need a feature telling the poster that the URL is blacklisted, otherwsie there might be some innocent people getting confusted about why they can't post...not everyone is a spammer].
5. By people with less than ten posts: So someone needs to spam a bit to make sure any post they have, even if a good one, does not get deleted?
6. Have had the file attachments removed: See #4.

i like the idea....but kanzen is not equal to, and is in fact less than teh sex.

4. Ummm, I said the post would be removed not the entire thread, notice the "threads/posts"?

I would go for all of your ideas except one. Some n00bs would get hurt by this. I can see 60 days and clear anything under ten posts. Yhat way they wouldn't get cut out if they started a day or two before the day of cleaning.

I like things that are automated!
