I keep getting "Incorrect Filetype. Only posting from my Pictures folder. I see the invalid filetypes note under Attachments here, so that's a good start. What should I do differently? How do I find Valid filetypes?

Are you trying to UPLOAD an avatar to your profile? I know that both .jpg and .gif file types work for avatars, but I'm not sure if there are other types that work.
If you're posting directly from your saved pictures, without editing them to be smaller, then you're going to have an additional problem of the file size being too large.

When I see File Type, I assume that. I always use jpeg, but then tried PNG, and couple others in my "save as" link. Yes, I reduced pic down to below the maximum size even. Nothing worked.

I just uploaded this avatar, and its a .jpg file, so that works. Are you able to take a screen cap of the error you're getting?
