It only sounds better if that's what you're used to. March 22, 2008 is much better than t h e t w e n t y s e c o n d o f M a r c h, T w o T h o u s a n d a n d e i g h t. It's tomorrow before you're done saying it your way.

I was thinking the same thing, I much prefer January first vs the first of January, even more with March twenty second vs the twenty second of March

Also, using smallest to largest as the Euopeans do is backward. Normally the largest unit of measure is placed first (on the left), as with hour/minute/seconds ... degrees/minutes/seconds ... feet/inches etc. The decimal system also reads largest to smallest 12.34 is 12 full units plus 34% of a full unit, not 34 units plus 12%

At least the US date system is only HALF backward

Can you leverage the regional and language options that the user configures in the operating system of their computer? Deliver the data to the user and let the client localize it. I haven't coded any web sites to this level, so please forgive if it's an obviously stupid question.

That being said, I'm a Yank, and I prefer the dd-mmm-yyyy format, such that today would be 22-Mar-2008, it gets rid of the confusion already pointed out around if 01-02-2008 is in January or February.

Truth be told, I actually prefer that today be noted as 2008.03.22, but I have no hope of that in my lifetime.

that would be ideal...since its the ISO
got to make Diz abandon the idea of pleasing all, and just use ISO standards for things..

I agree, I think one of these two would be good, that way there would be one consistent setting.

That said, if it stays like it is, FeFe is wrong, definitely use slashes for the US notation.
