that whole horse thing is an old myth and it's not true at all. I've heard it a million times but it's just one of those things people talk about. Following is a link about that myth with facts proving that it's not true, actually it has too much info about it but it still proves the point...

The 4th paragraph of this article talks about how it's not true with European statues either and while it may have some basis in fact the practice died out in the 19th century...
