That's not the only way. Why cant they kill the animal first at least that wouldn't be so bad and cruel.

Killing an animal like that to make a fucking coat for some rich bitch just isn't right!

Before you go around claiming the moral high ground- be aware that on the subject of PETA and animal cruelty you also seem to have your fair share of ignorance.

If PETA isn't the largest organized group of hypocrites around, they certainly rank in the top 10

I don't see anything wrong with a sheep being shaved!?

also iv seen dogs (as pets) in the peta offices so...

Are some people cruel to animals... yup! Just as there are some people that are cruel to people. The world is full of assholes- doesn't change the fact that animals don't have rights, we have responsibilities- Including responsibility of putting the assholes that are cruel to animals behind bars.

there IS nothing wrong with sheep being sheered- but PETA is against it- and one of the ads you posted decries it.

there IS nothing wrong with animals being kept as pets- but PETA is against it

The fact that you've seen pet dogs in their offices does nothing to counter their stated goal of no animals being kept as pets.

Don't believe me? Read their literature. Ingrid Newkirk has gone on record repeatedly espousing "Total Animal Liberation" which includes their release from "The New Slavery" of being owned as pets.

You'd probably say that since PETA is against animals being euthanize that they would oppose the practice anywhere any time too, right? But the fact is that they have and do euthanize animals that they have rescued but cannot place. In fact the percentage of animals killed after being rescued by PETA is higher than ANY of the animal shelters in the US. According to PETA’s “Animal Record” report for 2008, filed with the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, the animal rights group killed 95 percent of the dogs and cats in its care last year. During all of 2008, PETA found adoptive homes for just seven pets.

Just seven animals -- out of the 2,216 it took in. But of course, the ones they killed are probably less dead since it was PETA doing the killing.

Oh, and let's not forget the wonderful group of PETA workers that went around buying puppies out of shelters and euthanizing them in their van and chucking the carcasses in dumpsters. PETA officially denied any involvement, but since they paid their legal team, I really have some doubts there.

Now that I've gotten completely off field and ranted I will say that the chicks were pretty hot.

I don't agree with everything they do or say i know they can be over the top and i don't know everything about them. Theirs nothing wrong with people having animals as pets but like you said some people are assholes and don't take care of their pets and that's what sucks! I'm pretty much talking about the stuff in those videos, illegal dog fighting stuff like that and other videos iv seen posted by them, its just horrible to me! The sheep thing, they need to be shaved just like some dogs do. stuff like that is not a problem. Some animals have to be euthanized, for the right reasons, i don't think theirs anything wrong with that either!

I wasn't trying to start this whole discussion. i saw a peta add. liked it. found some more. posted them and here we are.
i check out the website saw some videos and was shocked i never knew that's how they got furs stored animals for big name pet shops and got meat for fast food chains!

Oh and im glad you liked the pictures!

Just goes to show that one cannot always believe the authenticity of a film (that can be staged) that seems to back up the point of view of a given group. I'm all for PETA getting the clothes off these fine ladies... but taking the leather away from my jacket isn't going to happen... those cows are killed for food anyway! Think folks skin a cow for leather only? That just doesn't happen... if a part can be used, it will be... its just good business to use as much of the critter as possible.

Its also good business to not clue folks into which bits are used for processed food like hot dogs.

Me, I'm a life member of PETA... not that one, the other one. People Eating Tasty Animals.

I think this discussion has gotten a little out of hand...

JSteel did not post the pictures or the video saying that he agreed with 100% of PETAs statements. He's simply stating that what he is seeing in those videos is wrong. He's not saying that everything PETA says is like the word of God, and he'll be struck dead if he doesn't spread the word. You don't have to share 100% of someone's beliefs in order to like them, just as you don't have to agree that keeping a dog as a pet is cruel, or that shaving a sheep is cruel. We're not extremists here. I mean, come on people, let's stop arguing for the sake of arguing. Some of PETAs ads are ridiculous, but some of those videos are just down right disgusting.

And whoever tried to say that the videos are staged?... I honestly think that's just taking it too far. You can't just turn a blind eye on animal cruelty because one group is too extreme on the issue. Sure, don't support PETA, but don't try to say that it's alright to skin an animal alive to make a coat, or say that it doesn't happen in some parts of the world.

Sure, animal overpopulation is a problem, just as human overpopulation is becoming an issue... the world has limited resources! But animals can be killed in a more human way. and sure, once they're killed humanly... by all means, use it for meat, leather, fur, whatever... but don't come in here all angry spitting and stomping all over JSteel and people b/c they disagree with some of the practices people use against animals.

eh, most of you probably won't even read what I wrote... and that's alright, or you'll say I'm an extremist and should go hug trees and free pets all over (I've owned cats all of my life, and want a dog soo badly! :P). but it's whatever. just stating my thoughts.

Thank You, JSteel, for a PETA-licious topic with a cause an' a message. It doesn't matter whether the models are devout animal lovers or vegans...(by the way, does the term, "vegan" make you think of an extra-terrestrial?...Maybe I watched too many sci-fi movies growing up, but it always makes me thing of women from Venus or something, but not vegetarians)...
Anyway, it's a cool thread an' topic, an' a great collection of the super eye-catching ads for PETA's cause, which is a good one, even if some feel PETA is over th' top on some things...It serves to remind people of the high cost of furs and leathers, beyond the price tag, so to speak, an' that's a good thing. Nothing gets noticed like skin, and the prettier the skin, the more attention it garners... It was an obvious yet inspired piece of Madison Avenue magic to advertise PETA in this manner, and it has worked.
Thanks again ! (By the way, I had to score this topic a full five stars ! )

For a good cause? Do some research before you go making stupid comments like that. I'm all for animals being treated fairly but PETA is over the top and everyone there needs to be commited, starting with PETA President Ingrid Newkirk who is a huge hipocrit. For example Ingrid once said this in a speech "Even if animal research resulted with a cure for aids we'd be against it" its funny to note however that with out animal research we wouldnt have things such as KemoTheropy....which Mrs. Newkirk depends on for her own survival.
Also PETA has publically admitted to giving large cash donations to ELF (Earth Liberation Front) which is currently on the FBI's top 10 list of Domestic Terror groups.
