They didn't do "x-ray" out of the box, you had to combine them with an infrared filter that blocked out the visible light so you could see the infrared light that passed through the clothes. I have a "newer" sony camcorder that has that feature "disabled" from the factory (they added a lens inside that switches over) but you can bypass it by not switching the nightvision switch all the way over. I bought an infrared filter for it at one point in time but never got around to testing it and now the camera is dead and needs to be repaired.

Oh my god, x-ray vision could probably be a possibility in a few years.
