problem with winrar again. I don't know if it really is that good a program everyone seemes to think. Either it stinks or those who handle it stinks and I prefer to put the blame on the program.

the problem with his post is not winrar. he didn't post the rest of the volume. oh and 90% of computer problems are caused by the user not the computer. winrar always works fine for me and i've been using it for like 6 years...

here's a quick explanation this is by no means a tutorial.
Winrar compresses files, similar to Winzip except that you can split the file up. Winrar lets you take a file or files and compress them into an archive and then the archive can be split into several peices. ALl of these peices are necessary in order to decompress the archive. So when you use winrar to compress a file and split it up you end up with multiple files. IN order to make things logical the file's have a naming convention. The naming convention used is dependant on the version of winrar that your using. regardless of that they usually go as follows. THe first file will end in .rar extension and the following files with end in .r01, .r02, etc. Newer versions of winrar give the files all the same extension of .rar but they add the part number into the name. So here's an example.
1. File1.mpg @ 3mb = here's are file we wanna split up, lets say its 3 mb.
2. We set winrar to compress the file and split it into 1 mb peices. Winrar creates the following.
file1.part1.rar
file1.part2.rar
file1.part3.rar
3. Now to post on WBW we upload all 3 files (file1.part1.rar, etc) in 3 seperate posts.
4. To make things easier for everyone we include info like 1 of 3 in our post so that the users know which peice of the archive they are downloading and how many peices they are so they download them all before they try and decompress.
hope that helps.
