Richard Scaldwell’s JAP V8-Powered GN Cycle Car. The engine is a JAP (J.A.Prestwich, not Jap) V8. It was built towards the end of 1908 as JAP decided to build a range of engines aimed at the budding aeroplane industry. The firm already had a very good knowledge of building engines for motorcycles and industry. John A. Prestwich’s keen interest in early flight made this a perfectly reasonable next step, and both V8 and V4 engines were constructed.
