Why is the image file size of a downloaded gallary image smaller then what it states in properties?

The image size displayed is the image size of the original image uploaded. We recompress the image and stamp it with a watermark. Most image uploaded are not efficiently compressed resulting in very large files.

Ok, that explains the loss of exif data as well. What compresion rate is used do you know?

We remove exif data for privacy reasons. Modern cellphones will add GPS meta data, and we don't want that floating around the web. The compression is 80 and for download 100;
