Screencap Tutorial Thread

This thread combines and replaces the three previous individual screencap threads. Each post in this thread represents a different method for making screencaps, hopeful you'll find one of these methods to your liking. 1) Tutorial : Screen Caps For Beginners using Media Player Classic - Tutorial by prepared by DevilHair[DK]

1 - Download the program

2 - Install it

3 - Open the program and you will get this screen :


4 - Click FILE, then QUICK OPEN FILE, and locate the movie which you want to use

5 - When the movie is loaded it starts to play, press STOP

6 - Click FILE, then SAVE THUMBNAILS, and you will get this windows :


Filename : Choose the file name for the image
Filetype : Choose the file type you want, JPEG is standard, use that
Thumbnails : X rows, X columns, here you can choose how many small picture, the big picture should include, 4x4 is standard, just use that
Image Width : Size of the output image, standard is 800, use that

7 - When you are done with the options, press SAVE, and the movie starts to FAST play, and creates a image file.

8 - When the movie stops, youre image is ready at the location you saved it at

2) Advanced Screencaps using Video Thumbnails Maker - Tutorial by prepared by DevilHair[DK]

1 - Download The Program

2 - Install It

3 - Open up the program and you will get this screen :


4 - Go To Options :


5 - In The Options Menu You Get This :


6 - Here you can change everything, from color, font and size of everything; if youre new at this; i suggest you use on of the SETS in the top :


7 - You can see the different SETS by pressing PREVIEW :


8 - When you have found the set, or the options you like, press SAVE :


IMPORTANT STEP :

9 - Press the ENVIROMENT link :


10 - Under the option ENVIROMENT, it is important you choose CLASSIC, so its a know filtype youre are doing, that can be viewed by almost everyone :


11 - Check the box called "Combine all files in one picture" :


12 - When you are done with that, press SAVE :


13 - After this you can choose between inputting a whole folder of movies , or choose those movies you want to do a screencaps of, by pressing "ADD FOLDER" or "ADD FILES" :


14 - When you have found the movies or folders you want, they should be displayed in the window now.

15 - Now press the button START, and the program will make the screencaps and save the image files the same place as the movie its doing :


16 - If you can´t find the picture or the program made a series of small images, you can change the options here :


17 - REMEMBER ; check the box "Combine All Files In One Picture", and you can choose the output directory, which should be standard as "The Same, Near The Video Files".

3) Screencaps with ImageGrabberII.NET - Tutorial by lilrika

Using Image Grabber II.NET

Image Grabber II.NET is available to download HERE

Download and install Image Grabber II.NET, if you need the .NET download you will be prompted to download and install it.

Launch Image Grabber II.NET

This is the initial loading screen.



Adjust the options if need be by selecting File then Options

The custom settings I have used are:-

Tile Width - 176
Tile Height - 144

Custom Details:-

File Name: [FILE_NAME]
File Size: [FILE_SIZE]
Duration: [DURATION]
Video Codec: [VIDEO_CODEC]
Resolution: [WIDTH]x[HEIGHT]
Aspect Ratio: [ASPECT_RATIO]
Bitrate: [VIDEO_BITRATE]

The Picture below shows the Options.



LOAD A VIDEO

Select file then open to load the video you wish to create a screen grabs picture of.

The file will start to play. Press stop.

This is the view of a loaded video.



GRAB FRAMES

Select the multiple grab icon. It is the button to the right of the Camera button.

You then will be asked.

Number Of Frames To Extract:

I selected 20, then press OK.

The software will then capture the number of required frames.

Shown below is the view after frame capture.



Then select File then Save File

This will load a preview of screen grab picture, shown below.



Then press the save button at the bottom of the preview picture.

Here is the finished screen grab tumbnail picture picture.



What makes this version rule is this!!!

Making screens for multiple files.

1. Open ImageGrabber.Net.

2. Click File... then Batch...



3. Click Add... to add your video files.



4. Then click Start... to create your screens for each video.

5. The program will auto-name them for you and save them in the same folder.
