Current Events/Politics Forum
Welcome to the Current Events forum. It is our attempt to have civil discussion/debate on topics ranging from current news items to politics to philosophy to anything in between. Both humorous and serious news topics are acceptable.
Keeping that in mind there are a few simple rules that will be enforced. Strictly.
1. First and foremost: No personal attacks. Disputing someone's position on a given subject is fine and encouraged. Resorting to ad hominem attacks, racist remarks, or anything attacking a poster rather than his/her position is not acceptable.
2. In the event you would like to post a news article/link for discussion the standard format is as follows: Include the link to the article and either a summary paragraph or quoted excerpt of a paragraph or two. Due to plagiarism concerns: DO NOT COPY THE ENTIRE ARTICLE. The initial post of a news article is to include only information from the article. After the article you MUST post a comment, ask a question, or steer the direction of the thread in some way. This is to be done in a follow-up post after your initial post. This is the only time double posting (posting directly after another post which you authored) is encouraged. Topics containing only a news link or article that lack any discussion or direction will be deleted.
3. Threads must have some redeeming value, substantive content, humor or relevance to society in general. Threads/posts that are intended to only criticize/insult/flame a government, politician, public figure, etc. without reference to an overall theme or discussion of their specific job performance are not allowed.
4. If you have a problem with a poster or feel that they are disobeying either the letter or spirit of these rules use the "Report" button next to their post or notify a moderator via PM. Do not ask for bans, mutes, deletions or the like in the thread itself. Which is to say, please do not "back-seat" moderate this forum. Non-moderators acting as mods will only breed personal animus and incite flaming.
5. NO hateful comments. Specifically no hateful comments regarding peoples' religion race or sexuality.
6. Try to keep the thread relevant to the topic in the original post. Some tangential commentary is inevitable, however, if you would like to discuss an ancillary topic please start a new thread about it.
7. Due to the nature of this forum, the modding will obviously be subjective, and done in whatever way is deemed best for the WBW community.
In the event you break these rules you will receive a warning. Continued violations of these rules will result in the removal of your posting rights for a period of time commensurate with the seriousness of the violation.
These rules will be modified as necessary. If you have a question as to how something is being moderated PM me or any of the global mods.
Rules Amendments:
Amendment I: As this forum is likely to be visited by people interested in legitimate conversation, and as such, likely to be visited by people not necessarily seeking nudity, the nudity is to be kept to a very bare minimum. This means, unless the nudity is part and parcel with the topic at hand, it is not allowed.
- Amendment Ratified 9-Nov-2008 | EL
Amendment II: Any political related post that contains absurd humor, political cartoons, overly crazy propaganda, funny political pictures, and generally what can be considered "not serious business" and the like is to be made in the Political Low-Content thread. This will keep extraneous thread creation for topics that aren't serious to a bare minimum. You can find the low content thread here: Low Content Thread
- Amendment Ratified 14-Oct-2008 | EL
Amendment III: - DO NOT COMPLAIN ABOUT A POST BEING DELETED/EDITED/ETC. Any post complaining about the decisions of a moderator will be removed. If you have a concern over how your post was viewed by a moderator, PM me, or the moderator who was responsible for editing your post. This is not a conversation that is to be had in public, and insults and claims of partisanship are not only factually incorrect, but serve no constructive purpose. If you seek an explanation of any actions of a moderator, speak to them directly; otherwise understand that moderating will at times be subjective and by posting on WBW you agree to follow the decisions of our moderators.
