Actually superman did become a zombie in a way. During the whole Marvel zombies thing they did a army of darkness vs. marvel zombies story arc where supposedly superman started the whole zombie virus thing. They had ash shoot superman in the chest in purgatory and it blows the "S" off of his chest, evidently this was to avoid copyright infringement. However in the end they had to remove him completely anyway and recolored his character to be a "sentry".
