Its utter crap and a waste of time that is nothing more than a method to brainwash youths into thinking it is actual way to live a life.

And I live in Detroit.

I like rap and hip-hop mainly for the beats they put out, but most of the lyrics as well as the artists are retarded. I love the sound of bass, either in my car or pumping it out from my home theater system during a movie.

I love a lot of the beats and the poetry. Naturally, people that don't understand poverty and true urban life are turned off by it and frightened by the revolutionary talk. However, it is where you find some of the best dialog for things that question the status quo. I think a lot of non black people just don't get it (and can't get it) and so then condemn it. Like ALL other music there is good rap/hip-hop and bad.

edit: Oh yeah the question was about Snoop.. Yeah.. he's cool. I like his style

I absolutley agree with you here. Although I do think this way about most forms of music. Music is pure emotional artistic expression; some based on good emotions, some on bad. It's a way of delivering a message.

I think in order to truely appreciate music, you must listen to the beat, the lyrics, and the tone of the artist(s) voice(s); this being especially true with rap music.

Now on to the question of Snoop. I like his older stuff, back from the early to mid '90s more than his newer stuff.

Well stated VK. Music has a long history of expressing cultural, historical and, of course, as a vehicle of protest. A lot of people that express hatred for rap probably love rock or metal....types of lyrics that have been utilized for years for dissention. It's interesting how the same people get all uppitty and hateful when blacks DARE to do the same

I have to admit when a lot of it first came out I didn't like it.......I then reexamined my attitudes, and what was being said in the lyrics, and realized that a) I really liked a lot of the beats and b) my original dislike was probably some form of subconscious prejudice- and I KNEW I didn't want that and c) if I was black I might be pissed at a lot of things too.

Okay, I have to agree with most of the statements here. The only reason I listen to rap is when I work out because the beats can fire you up. But, like moet of you have made apparent, most of "pop" rap makes no sense and is not really music. HOWEVER, rap is a form of art when USED PROPERLY. I'm talking about the underground artists that no one hears about. Such as Immortal Technique. This man is a mad lyricist and people like him are the ones that keep rap alive. I suggest you download the song "The Cause of Death" by Immortal Technique. Give it a chance and listen to the whole song. By the end of it, I PROMISE your opinion will change at least a little.

The only snoop doog song I like is the country version remake of Gin and Juice. It's fucking hilarious.

And, that's the only rap song you'll ever catch me singing word for word.

Dude, Immortal Technique is hardcore. I don't know if I agree with everything he says, but makes you think.
Underground hip-hop has a lot of good talent, both lyrically, and musically. It's the mass media that fucks it all up, MTV, BET, radio, magazines, push all the gangsta and jewelrey and cars crap. I mean 50 cent rapping about window shoppers, what, was that commissioned by Alan Greenspan to stimulate the economy? Who needs to hear that crap? Unfortunately, millions of witless consumers are eating it up.
I feel the same way about rock music too. I can't stand the pop and rock that gets played on commercial radio. Corporate rock still sucks!
My 2 c.

Yeah, I like bitches and chronic, so I guess I'm down wit Snoop.
