Be careful when checking out your buddy's AIM profiles because there is a virus out that places a link on your profile to one of several sites. It will edit your AIM profile to add one of several messages at the end. One of the messages I encountered said "Look! I found (your sn)'s pictures here!". Others included invitations to take an online quiz and stock quotes. By clicking that link, it sends you to a page where it starts downloading the virus.
Sites to look out for:
buddypicture.net
realphx.com

I did more research into this and the virus is known as Trojan.Sinkin.
One way you can check if you have been infected is the presence of the file AV.exe on your computer.

I think there was a bit of misunderstanding... This virus is mostly on AOL Instant Messenger. However if you do not have AIM, it will change your start page to some sort of advertisement. IF YOU DO GET THIS VIRUS, I RECOMMEND CHANGING ALL PASSWORDS ON YOUR COMPUTER. Additionally, do not use the remover found at realphx.com. Yes, it will be removed, but you will ADD more spyware to your system!!! This virus is known to transmit password information.

Crank up the security stuff on your computer, get a firewall, get anti-spyware stuff, get Norton or McAfee, and lastly:

(yeah it's got a web address on it; but they got it from somewhere else, anyway)

Yes, my sister had this virus. One of the profiles say: NEW YEARS PARTY!!!.

If you click on it TONS AND I MEAN TONS of spyware will start infecting your system. 10s of thousands of files. Registry keys will be infected too. I reccommend a spyware removla program called: SpyHunter.

SpyHunter removed all the spyware and viruses. There is even a program you can run that tells you when new(or old) spyware is being run, and it may automatically remove it.

What the profile virus does is try to make you aware that you have a virus/spyware/others. Then it makes lots of pop-ups that try to get you to buy virus removers and such, dont be fooled. I bid you all farewell.
