Truecrypt is awesome.
The two basic options are:
1. Encrypt your entire HDD meaning you must enter a password at boot in order to load Windows, Linux etc OR
2. Create an encrypted container, think of it like an breifcase to which you add files. To access the briefcase you can enter a password, keyfile or both - these options are presented to you when you open the breifcase with truecrypt.exe
There are many advanced options such as hidden encrypted partitions but if you have to ask what truecrypt is its unlikely you're doing anything on your computer that would warrant such secrecy
Yeah, basically what that dude said.
You can encrypt a whole drive, and have a password set at the boot, plus have containers, which is pretty badass. Or, like he said, just have containers, that you can open, once they're unlocked, it's just the same as if you were copying/playing from an external HD. It's good to read the FAQs and such, so you don't end up fucking yourself over, since if you haven't done it before, it's a little tricky. Any other problems just PM Kanzen, since he knows a bit about it.
Plus, he likes PMs.
rofl. mostly just pictures... i have 2 hdds and i was wondering if i could encrpyt one so i could put photos and stuff and lots of stuff ive just written that i NEVER want to get out, as right now im only using "hidden" and "do not show hidden files" in obscure file locations to hide stuff... i share all the computers i have with my roommate, but another friend or two might be moving in, and makes chances of privacy even less. so id like a harddrive to be MINE with no chance of someone else stumbling on. and i know myself ways to bypass the stupid "windows account" password, so thats not an option.
any chance you could add me to msn or something and tell me more?
yeah from what ive seen kanzen is pretty.. high tech / intense. (intimidating!) lol.
my main drive has all my stuff atm, but i want to encrpypt one of the others then copy my stuff over to it, and have it ecrpyted, so the whole drive acts like a password locked "briefcase" for my stuff.
Yeah, that's pretty easy to do, and effective at keeping your personal stuff personalz.
This is hilarious. I was reading about this program on their site and read this as one of the features:
-------------------
Plausible Deniability
In case an adversary forces you to reveal your password, TrueCrypt provides and supports two kinds of plausible deniability:
-------------------
Adversaries who force you to reveal your passwords? The computer nerds used to be so peaceful. What's this world coming to?
What they are referring to is extortion or threat of imprisonment. Say you want your personal 'finances' not to be seen by airport security, but you are forced to divulge the password, you give them the fakeout password which reveals a bunch of junk files. They don't know that a secret partition is still hiding more.
It is how I hide all of my illegal, donkey sex bomb pictures.
It only really works against lighter attempts, it would probably baffle anyone outside of the N*A, and C*A.
She will to post nudes.
You just have to PM her frequently.
*waits for the complaints about 500 daily PMs*
