I have suffered from chronic migraines for 17years. I am curious as to what treatments are used around the world, as surely there are more treatments than what are offered here in the US. I have been on several different antispasmodics, antidepressants, and other medications as attempts at prophylaxis. None have worked and the Botox injections did nothing. Medications for prophylaxis have included topiramate, indomethacin, amitriptyline, propranolol, timolol, doxepin, gabapentin, NSAIDs, magnesium supplements, riboflavin(B2), and CoQ10. Surely doctors elsewhere have alternatives to these medications. I have also tried several (probably dozens) herbal remedies, also to no avail. ny help would be appreciated, as the migraines are increasingly interfering with my ability to work.

Lots of meds/pills, but what about acupuncture or physical therapy?

I had what doctors thought were bad migraines, turned out it was a tumor. Have you had CT scans or MRIs?

Ask your Dr if you can try Butal, I had a severe head injury and have suffered from cluster migraines ever since. Butal and Fiorcet have been the only things that have ever given me any relief.

Chiropractic worked for me. Went from two or three a month to 0 after two months of regular visits.

I have had MRIs CATscans, contrast dye scans and they show nothing, at least thus far. As for acupuncture and chiropractic and physical therapy, none have helped. The chiropractic helps with my neck which is aggravated by the migraines and may aggravate the migraines some, but no appreciable reduction in occurrence of migraines only slight reduction in discomfort. As to the suggestion of Butal(fioricet), it helps to get my migraines under control to a point if I take it with promethazine. I also use either imitrex injections or max-alt dissolve tablets as abortive medications, thought they are only effective about 40% of the time.
Yes Davey, your suggestion would work, but as you well know here in US using pot makes it very hard to get good work. I have used weed in the past and on occasion even now as it seems to be the most effective thing. Unfortunately the law does not view it as such. I am confused by the laws governing medical marijuana, as all of the ones I have looked into do not keep an employer from firing you or not hiring you if you fail a drug test.

Marijuana has been made legal for medicinal purposes and recreational purposes on the state level (depending on what state you live in) but it's still illegal on the federal level which means employers can still hold it against you. Which totally sucks because a small amount of a plant could possibly ease your pain without having to resort to prescription medications.

In Sweden we have pills for migraines... People say they work. Other than that I have no idea o.O
