Hiya,

I have hundreds of audio cassettes that I want to copy to mp3 format and onto CD. Could anyone give me a heads up on a simple way to do it.

I have a series of cassette players
PC
HD DVD writer
Nero 7

If you could explain the process and the software please. I have recently started converting all my video tapes onto dvd and managed to do that successfully, so am taking there must be a simple no expense wat to do audio?

Any links or info would be great

the thing about recording tapes is that you have to stop at each song if you want them in single tracks... or with a program like goldwav you can copy the whole tape then cut each song out and put them as seperate files.and you make what ever file ext you want so you dont even need to do them in MP3 you can go straight to WAV files and burn them right away. to put it in the computer id just recomend a stereo then plug it into the mic spot with what ever cables you need. and i think the program is free off of www.download.com i may be wrong though. but you can use that site to find most any program that could help you out with this project. http://www.goldwave.com/ heres their site for their program
good luck and dont let the RIAA know what your doing! lol

oh and heres a site that i dont know what is ....... on..... it but it may help you out HINT HINT HINT! www.seriall.com

i was in the same boat several years ago. techtv.com had an article about the procedure, you may have to search their archives because they call themselves http://www.g4tv.com/main.html now.

I used Roxio software and the set-up is simple you need a phono jack to hook up your computer to a cassette player. The problem is editing, very painstaking with simple software.songs that have long pauses can be a special pain. There is editing software availible but I thought it was too expensive (juice wasn't worth the squeeze).

hopefully there's better software now

probably could have done it but i totally lack patience

I've been using audacity for analog recording (tapes and vinyl). Same deal though - I find it easier to record a whole side before chopping it up as I can do noise removal first.

audacity.sourceforge.net/

And, best of all, its free.

Oh, you'll also need the lame mp3 decoder stuff to export as an mp3.

Im pizzed off..... I cant seem to get my audio tapes to run through my pc. I connected it via a cassette player with audio plugs into the mic inlet of the pc, run CLEAN and although I see the wave indicated and recording level, the saved file just buzzes and no sound. Any technos got any ideas for me????
