@ BustMall: I am prepared for city things, not particular wilderness or rural areas. But some day I will add a few survival things to my bag. Maybe an altoid tin survival kit and some more paracord 550. I still have yet to put together a bug-out-bag but that will be saved for the next thread.
@ Dros: Do you leave all your cards freeballing in your pockets?

Well, we seem to share one commonality: It won't stop a bear attack, but enough cash can get you out of most binds.
Which is why I carry the Beretta. Either for bears, or people that want the cash without a fair trade.

I should probably put together a smaller go-bag. Just essential stuff and some small survival stuff.

A knife under most instances is better than a gun in as close of a confrontation as a mugging would generally allow.
Unless you're an incredibly good shot most of the bullets would do nominal damage if they even hit.
Guns are good as scare factors, because people believe that you pull the trigger, there's a loud noise, and then things die.
Which generally isn't the case. You pretty much have to be shot in the T-zone or have your heart blown out in order to die in anything near an "immediate" or "effective" period of time.
That being said, most people are scared of guns. Soo... yeah. That should work. But, if you're faced with a mugger who has experience, then you prolly just got yourself killed or shot while you were trying to draw your weapon. (I see no hip holster or panel insert for the bag- so then you've also got to hope that the gun is facing a direction suitable for gripping and drawing and that it hasn't been fouled by any of the magic crap that ends up in pockets and bags.)

I do agree. But I am a good shot. 1st three shells are hollowpoints. Just solids behind it. If I ever do have to pull the trigger, I do intend to kill whatever I'm aiming at. So far, the need to draw on another human has never presented itself. I am a believer in the "know your situation and avoid trouble" mentality. The holster is actually at home., but there is a dedicated gun pocket in my case. For me it's not a scare-factor tool, but a last resort.
My favorite weapons are my shotguns, my favorite pistol is my S&W 745 (a 1911 style), but the double action of the B-92 just makes it a better personal sidearm for the intended purpose.

Gonna have to get me a knife, so many cool ones in here that you guys carry...
Bangledesh 13 years ago
Gerber and Benchmade are solid options, relatively cheap-ish.
DEMO 13 years ago
Cheapish being the key word here. I seen some of the knives you were looking at Bangy, and lets just say, 350.00 is a bit more then I would want to spend on one

I wish knifes were legal here, anything more than 5cm in length and its an offence to carry it.
Talk about a nanny state.

Yeah, I use the [img tags but after copying from My Photos the paste doesn't appear as an option.
HLinking works great with google etc images.

Interesting, I know nothing about the ipad so I'm really no help. But I can attach files from my android if that helps

5cm is roughly the standard identified length required to kill someone with a knife.
However, it's quite possible to kill with as little as 2cm.
So just because the blade isn't of a length typical of a "fight" knife (7 inches, btw- because that's the average distance between the clavicle and the Aortic notch), doesn't mean that it isn't useful for self defense.

Anyone know of any solid, but small bags or sling backpacks that aren't shit?
