What are your thoughts on Metallica's new song, The Day That Never Comes?
This is the video to it. It's set in the Middle East, probably Iraq. It depicts a day as one of the American military patrolling though the desert.

Umm...
It's a terrible song.
Not because it's entirely political and all that.
But because it's just a really bad song.
Personally, I dont think it's all that bad. it's definitely not like any of their earliest/best songs but it's not the worst IMO.
I've listened to the whole album and I feel the same, the album isn't the best one nor does it sound anything like their earlier albums but it's not the worst
I guess I'm one of the "die hard fans" of Metallica, I have listened to every album/song they have put out and I have liked atleast 2 to 3 songs from each album with the exception of St. Anger, I only liked maybe one song from that album but it wasn't one that I could listen to over and over and not get tired of it
I agree with jawz except i like alot of their songs but like he said this album isnt like their earlier ones
Wow..
Such a bland response to the new album!
I personally think the new album is the best they've put out in almost 15 years, and the majority seems to agree. The new single is pretty good, but it's the most radio friendly track on Death Magnetic (With the exception of Unforgiven III).
The reason it gets so heavily compared to the first three albums is because of it's return to proper form, not it's cookie cutter similarity. It sounds like a Metallica album should, and you know it's Metallica with every track.
At the same time, the band evolved with the times. Not always easy to do (St. Failure is a prime example).
The ability to carry on the sound that makes them who they are, and still evolve is a daunting task. There is no doubt in my mind that they've finally got their shit together, and the future holds great things for a legendary band..
the new album is not that bad, not great, but not bad...

the new album is pretty good for "new metallica" they went back to the long song format and guitar solos that made the first 4 albums rage but they have grown and gotten older and it shows in their music and that's not a bad thing unforgiven III is the biggest disappointment i mean come on lets get a new title i was sad to see the word unforgiven on the album at all,the song is ok and thankfully it does not sound like unforgiven or unforgiven II and it really should have had another title. the day that never comes is the most commercial tune, i truly thought the would release cyanide as the first single amd in my opinion the best tune on the whole damn thing is the return of the epic instrumental that only metallica can make, named "suicide and redemption" in the world of new music i give it a 7/10 in the world of metallica i give it a 5/10 still much better that the black album, load, and reload.
I think the best song off the album is Judas Kiss..
It just kicks ass; plain and simple!
I thought the instrumental didn't have enough of the classic feel to it, but I was still glad to see one on the album.
As for those hoping for "Master of Puppets" the Sequel, that's just not possible. Age and maturity have brought the band past that sound. Be happy with what they've offered: A real Metallica album, influenced by the past, but written for the present.
Oh yeah; they had it produced properly, too. That helps...

yes bringing in rick ruben to produce it was the right choice and judas kiss does kick ass
it should come to the standarts of ONE....but its far from it....cyanide must be a vid now
The coffin box looks cool, but you are right..
WAY too expensive!
Hardcore fans with the bucks will order it, and I can say that Metallica has always had awesome packages when they do this kind of stuff(Live Shit:Binge and Purge for example).
Another interesting fact:
NEVER released a greatest hits album.. Very few bands can say that these days.
I'm a HUGE Megadeth fan, but Mustaine's overdone it on the "greatest hits" releases.. Somewhere around 4 or 5 in the past 8 years! The ONLY one worth getting is the box set.. Everything else is just filler. The only thing I am glad he did was the remasters of the old Megadeth albums. They are really impressive, with the retracking of old songs and vocals, and the added tracks. Worth every penny.
Back on topic; I thought the video was pretty good, and the song is structured a lot like "One". Once again, though: It's "new" old-school style Metallica, not rehashed and revisited old Metallica.
