I'm the first to say i HATE xmas. I think it is overrated and anyone w/ a dysfunctional family dreads the holiday season. What i do enjoy is how some people take this time of year to go out of their way to be nicer to others..or maybe we just notice it more. Anyways i wanted this thread for you to post something you've done that really improved someone's day/life..or maybe it's something u are planning on doing. I guess growing up as poor as us i really can't get into going overboard and blowing $ on presents. In fact there were a couple of years where i didn't even get presents. A single mom w/ 5 kids can't afford that sometimes. Well i touched someone the other day and i wanted to share w/ you. I figured if ya'll shared your stories we'd all get a warm fuzzy feeling....or i'm a complete spaz (which is probably true) So here's my tale:
So the other day i was in the store doing some regular shopping-dog food and such. You can tell it's xmas time b/c the store is packed and it's like a thursday at 2pm. People are on cell phones and completely oblivious to eachother. That is one of my pet peeves so i'm always considerate to step aside if i have to stop w/ folks behind me. Well we stop and this guy is behind us. So i say "careful, there is a gentleman behind you." to let my shopping pal know to step aside. The guy looked at me shocked for a few seconds and thanked us profusely and started to walk away. Before he turned the aisle he looked at me and smiled showing me he was missing some teeth. He paused and said "It has been a LONG TIME since someone has called me a gentleman, thank you." I realized others must treat him differently b/c of his appearance. I felt good that i had made his day. Later on as we were in the checkout line he offered us a spot in front of him. we politely declined and wished him a merry xmas.
