this whole thing stems from a conversation I had with a woman who said she hated body hair and would never have anything to do with a man who didn't shave it all off as it's "disgusting". that's a hang-up.

So, tastes change over time. Until the "completely shaven" thing came about, men had started wanting their girls to just trim it up a little so as to not look like a hairy beast is living between her legs. For reference on this subject, see any porn video or magazine made before... 1985. The big hairy bush was once in style, and then the neatly trimmed "hedge" or "landing strip" look was in style, and now no hair at all is in style. It's kind of like the afro and bell bottoms you're sporting, chap... you like it, but the majority of people don't anymore.
