The start of the topic is different, so its not a typical repost, but its not the first time its been talk about:

Maybe this could be some sort of continuation of the other thread!?

But on topic, I would have to say Guns n' roses - November Rain or Evanescenes - my immortal
Have a lot of memories attached to both of them ass well.

I'm surprised that Evanescence's "My Immortal" and Harry Chapin's "Cats in the Cradle" aren't on that list. I almost cried the first time I listened to the words of My Immortal, and IMO a father who never has time for his son and then passes that trait onto his son is incredibly sad.

its one of those things that is so subjective. for me that list isnt very comprehensive and seems to contain too many recent songs. hardly suprising though since there are more people around who remember these than something 30 years old!

anyway, just to add my two pennies, my 'favourite' saddest song (that sounds wierd) is Farewell My Friend by Dennis Wilson (RIP).

"Shannon" from Henry Gross is kind of sad. It's about a family dog dying.

I can't listen to "The Captain And The Kid" by Jimmy Buffett. It makes me think of my grandfather and I get really depressed. As soon as I hear the song come on I skip it. That and "Last Mango In Paris".

That question is TOTALLY subjective, IMHO. Despite that "study" (which didn't really go into what the criteria was for their choices), I can pick out a few songs that made me wonder if there was someone out there listening to that song on a rooftop somewhere or in their room with a loaded gun:

Aerosmith - Don't Want To Miss A Thing
Evanescence - My Immortal
Dan Fogelberg - Leader Of The Band
Johnny Cash - Hurt

Exactly what I was going to say. Very sad song.

Also, if you want sad try Empty Chairs by Don McLean.
