My PS2 is kaput, I think

My PS2 is not working, it did yesterday and now it gets stuck if I load a game or the screeen goes all square spotty if I try a DVD if it plays at all. Taking into account a recent change in weather(rained here for the first time in 2 months) I presume its moisture on the lense. Does anyone else have any tips how I can dry it out (currently using a heater on low) or if it may be something else. Any input (even people saying I am a tech deficient noob) would be greatly appreciated.

One thing, DONT put it next to a heater, even on low that will mess it up even worse. If it is because of moisture than it needs to dry out on its own. If you have one try using a lens cleaner, that should make some sort of difference. Other than that im not sure what else you could do.

Go sign up for a PS3 and if you start saving now you might be able to afford it.

Without more info on what it does when you power up, its kinda hard to speculate.
Have you tried PS's troubleshooting website.

My PS2 took a shit a few yers ago...I went to a store and bought a new one. I took off the sticker that has the serial number on it and placed it on the broken unit. I took the broken PS2 back to the store and got my money back.

Reminds me of a time I screwed apart my PS2 because it was getting one of those read disc errors. I just took at one of the boards and cleaned the lens. Haven't had any troubles with mine since, but it seems like for most people have had troubles with this error.

This name seemed more interesting plus I had a semi-matching picture.

I used to have the old chunky ps2 that i bought as soon as they came out but started getting read errors too on nearly every game i had, even brand new games. I threw it out last year and got a slimline ps2, its great with the ethernet port built-in so i can take my broadband modem out of my computer and plug it into my ps2 for online gaming. Been waiting for ages on the ps3`s release and a review was in this weeks Nuts magazine. I`d suggest holding out for the ps3, if you have the cash
