I wholeheartedly wish you the best, and I respect you for battling your demons...both in private and public, and I congratulate you on your success.

I do have one question for you though...Were you a religious man prior to hitting your bottom and going to AA?

The answer is no & yes. went to Sunday school & later church only on holidays. later in life none at all, I believed that "science" could explain away everything. In the big book of Alcoholics Anonymous we have an entire chapter on "We Agnostics" chapter 4 pg 44.

recovery is dependent on a belief of a higher power. you can select your own higher power as long as you believe that it is stronger then you.. I.E. a tree, the collective power of the people in an A.A. room etc. Now this might sound hokie pokie to someone on the outside but it does work & it's proven time & time again.

Peace & Love, ABD

This is what I was getting at. It was YOU who made the choice to get healthy, you and you alone. Have faith in that, and take credit in that. Not that god doesn't mean something to some people, but to give someone (something) else credit in your recovery is selling yourself short....in my opinion.

Best of luck to you.

it's difficult to explain how & alcoholics / drug addicts brain works. we are a different type of person then a "normal" person is all I can say. AA has been around since 1939 & every time I go to a meeting I see it working.

While it is true that I made the choice to go to detox. I can't stay sober without AA & a higher power.

I hope that nasty thing on the x-ray is treatable or at least not lethal ?

I also agree with what SP said above and was about to write it down a few times in this thread before. I understand what you're telling by saying support is important and I believe it is too. But I hope you also keep in mind that even if you are helped (be it by your faith, your friends or whatever support you), you are the one leading your life. So yeah, you are the main part responsible for your recovery. Props for that and good luck for the future

Edit : Not only did you choose to go to detox, but you also chose to use the strength you get from AA and your faith to continue on this path

add this to the set of my pictures. I've been drop dead tired for 1.5 weeks, I can literally fall asleep anywhere at any time. had this film done 31may12 - figured i'd use it for that scared straight effect.. lol. Lwr right corner, 1/2 dollar sized spot on the liver. I'm not looking for sympathy so don't post any -- i'm in my higher powers hands ( i prefer to call him God ).

In regards to your X-ray, as a person who takes and reads X-rays on a daily basis I can tell you that the spot on the image is not your liver, the heart is on the left side as seen and the liver is on the right side. The spot on the image is called the gastric bubble, which you get as a result of eating. When you burp the bubble gets smaller, when you don't eat, you have no gastric bubble. Everything else looks good as far as I can tell from the pic.

Been to a few AA meetings and read THE BOOK.
Too religious for me...and this from a raised devout, though nonpracticing, Catholic; the Missus still is w/the kids.
The odd vibe just wasn't for me. I left meetings with more misgivings than before BUT it was nice to hear some peoples experiences.
Liked the Rational Recovery school of thought and THEIR BOOK philosophy worked better for me especially since I espouse personal responsibility and accountability...making good and poor decisions in life.
I realize(d) the reasons I drink, and had for a long time mainly due to being incompatible with my job but I'm stuck with it, so its a matter of coping and finding better stress outlets, break old habits, and realize how life was passing me by.
I'm not perfect by any means but I am a lot better dealing with those little voices in my head on the after work commute...

rower41: Glad to hear it buddy ! the little voices aka "the itty bitty shitty comity" - is very tough to deal with.

just remember to keep it in the day - we can plan for the future, but we cannot predict it's out come.

AA is not a cure all for everyone & the big book is not meant to be read alone as a self help book, but rather with a sponsor.

very happy you at least tried it. remember that their is not one situation that you can be in where booze or drugs will help.

peace bro & good luck.
