Ealyer tonight i was going true my HD to clean it up.. found and uploaded a zip with 91 pics only just after i uploaded them i saw i wasn't logged in for some reason IE fucked things up as i suddenly wasn't logged in on anything no more.. so i was being pissed off because i uploaded loads of stuff and i wasn't logged in..

Then all hell broke lose.. the comp an "old" p3 1ghz with 384 mb ram and win 2k totaly went nuts.. IE crashed.. and kept crashing.. msn crashed.. i restarted ( note it took 10 min to restart that comp so i never turn it off normaly.. its on my room but doesn't make much noise so who cares ) after that.. again.. crash windows crash.. and IE was showing only BIG lettertypes somehow.. after a few restarts i can't even get in windows i crash everytime i want to get in.. so gonna buy a new system for my room soon.. already put one together.. totaly not ment for gaming so it has a low ass vid "just" 256 ram the cheapest proc i could find ( xp 2000+ ) onboard sound 40 gb HD etc. still 450 euro's tho all in all..

anyway i'm just pissed off the old comp died on me.. lost loads of shit. gonna format and put win 98 on it and give the thing to my bro lol he aint got a pc atm so he will be happy to.. so don't exept to see me to much comming week.. hope to have the new system before next weekend.. still get online @ night on the game comp but as my bro sis and dad use it to i aint on it alot.. and when i am i'm playing games

it's bad that your pc is fucked up

don't write the system of yet. first try to format and reinstall the HDD. if that doesn't work, your HDD is prolly broken. from the info you give us, it seems to me your HDD is the problem...

thought it would get moved here tho after i reread it.. anyway i'm a ict guy.. and the comp always been that slow.. my "old' AMD 500 system had the same HD in it always ran after and started up faster and everything.. as a system it was pretty ok but on internet it is damn shit..

and yea i put that system together on alternate hehe.. always used alternate.. my whole gaming system comes from there to.. well almost then.. bought the vid @ a normal shop ( later din't have cash to buy it all @ once ) and bought the boxes and 5.1 soundcard on a "computer beurs" if anybody can translate that don't know what it is in english..

My comp fucked up royally last year when I was running Win ME. I tried re-installing that like 25 times and it kept fucking up. Here, the system restore disc that came with my Gateway was faulty and they never sent me a good one. So I had spent all kinds of time trying to re-install that for no reason basically. I ended up sayin' fuck it and getting XP Corporate from a friend. Now it's fucking up too... that's what I get for pirating I guess.

I just recently had a simmilaer problem... turned out to be a vid driver..dodnt match my chipset.

I don't know if I understood fully your text but you may want to save the files you have in that harddrive of yours. I believe they're still there (when it comes to computers its never too sure, though ). Just install new OS on another HD and put the old one as a slave. There still should be your old files in there. Just don't format the old HD yet!

yea i saved my files that i needed.. was just a 2.1 gb disk in the old comp hehe so not much on it anyway.. just 2 programs i needed backed up.. the comp is plugged out of the net and waiting to get stripped down :p

what kind of drive is it, if its the ibm 40gb deskstar a.k.a. deathstar you're just going to run into problems. also i wouldnt suggest doing the master / slave thing put everything on its own seperate ide bus as master, you can get a good ide card with 2 channels for cheap.

there's no problem with master/slave things, i'm systemadmin (>500 computers) and we've never had any problems with master/slave..

Meh finaly got all parts today and yesterday.. builded up the systems.. had some problems with disks not working.. but putting in the IDE the right way helps :p

din't have any real problem tho.. i'm in the ICT buisness to.. and both HD's are on IDE1 master and both CD's are on IDE2. ( or 0 / 1 if u want it ) always do it that way cause i got the cables anyway.. just finnishing up installing the software.. IE.. servicepacks and updating viruscans etc.. but i'm almost done finaly back online..
