If you haven't done this already, go to:
help.benm.at/help.php
You can download a file that allows you to tether your iphone for free. If you are ever on a road trip with your laptop or netbook and you're bored you can now surf wbw at 3g speed using your phone as your modem and connected via usb or bluetooth.

I tried it today and it works great. I hear AT&T is going to charge about $30 when they finally release iphone tethering. This is free.

One word of warning. "Unlimited" data plans on AT&T have a 5GB monthly cap. If you go over that they send you a warning and then if you do it again they charge you.

I hope some of you get some use out of this, I know I will.

So did everyone know about this already or do they think it's spam?

It works. It might be against the AT&T contract, but it works.

I do that with my instinct, but most poeple dont't know about tethering. Unless AT&T told you how to do that, you can be fairly certain that it's against their rules. The trick is, if they do not acknowledge that the phone is able to do that, they can't do shit about you doing it.

For example, Sprint says that the Samsung Instinct does not have PAM(phone as modem) capabilities, and that is their official position on the matter, and doing it is listed into the TOS you have to agree to when you sign up, BUT, they can't drop you off your contract for doing something that they specifically say is not possible to do. That is the contract loophole with tethering. So they can piss and moan all they want, but unless they officially change their position on it, they're not able to do anything.

How can they figure out when you've reached 5gb?

They know when you reach 5 mb because they monitor that when you're using their network. It shows up on my statement. My iPhone has a counter that keeps track of all of my bandwidth I use so it is pretty easy to monitor.

I just sent the instruction to my father as he has an IPhone. I will let you know his feedback.

GB, not MB dude.

5 MB would take like a minute and a half to rack up. :P

Yeah I know. I wrote GB in the message that started the thread.

I stream XM/Sirius to my iPhone and it doesn't even really make a huge dent in 5 gb.
