I used to buy loads of music (£100 a month average) when Napster was around and for a short time after its demise. In the last three years I haven't bought a single CD.

Jeez, I hate to take the side of the recording industry, but just who do you think is paying the artists' bills when you pirate everything you can?

Personally, I buy fewer CDs, because if I want only a few cuts from a CD I buy them legally off the net. If it's going to cost me almost as much, or more, to get them electronically, I buy the CD for the better sound quality and persistence. I don't have any reliance on any facet of the music industry for my income, but that doesn't mean I don't think musicians whose music I like don't deserve to get paid. I know they're only getting a fraction of the retail price, but that's the deal they made with their record company (who does, after all, bear some legitimate expenses).

If you don't like the deal you're getting from the artist, vote with your wallet and don't buy their music, but don't just rip something off because it's not worth the vendor's price to you. How 'bout the next time I need tires I just rip off yours because, well, I'm too cheap to buy them myself.

WTF

I buy more Cds these days. Seems like there's a lot of what I like out there now.

I hate CD's. I rather buy my albums in LP format or "buy" them from teh internets in mp3 format.

If it's an artist I respect then I will buy the cd, as too many of my favourite bands end up getting dropped because of poor sales, only to be replaced by an inferior clone or some godawful shite.

I have to admit that I don't buy as much as I used to, given that it is all readily available on the web for nowt. That said, if the record companies actually gave artists time to develop properly and weren't so obsessed with making a profit at the expense of the artist and consumer I'd probably start buying more.

I don't buy nearly as many as I used to, but I'm pretty sure thats because I don't have nearly the expendable income I used to have(I used to buy them at random, and in stacks).

I listen to electronic music almost exclusively, most of which are 1 hit... I don't know if "wonder" is right, but only 1 track gets out and you never hear from them again.

I'll DL most music now before I buy it and if I've heard of them I'll buy the CD for grins. I have a lot of music that is either a recorded LP or a mix that I would buy if I had any idea who did it/where I could get it.

I buy about the same, usually sample the music for free (and keep it regardless) and buy it if I like it for any extras.

I've not really bought any albums since i was a teenager. Even back then though i only bought ones i knew i'd love. Every Oasis Album & Single, The Verve. Generally though i'd just listen to the radio or tv. I now download the vast majority of my stuff.

If i didn't do this, i just wouldn't listen to much new music.
