How do Web pages get paid?

I have always wondered... how do web pages get paid? I sure you don't get money for the "hits", is it just advertising? anyone know?

You don't "technically" get paid for the amounts of hits you get. But obviously the more hits you generate the more advertisers are willing to pay to be on your site.

sometimes people just give you money because they like your site...

BTW, why aren't there any advertises here on WBW? Doesn't anybody will to pay (which would be strange, magazines like Playboy or Maxim would have a great advertise in here) or does Diz refuse all the offers?

I'm pretty sure either Diz or Senja said something about ads coming soon. Not seeing them is something that you are supposed to get with a Sponsor membership. Right now, there is only the one banner at the top of the page that is blocked.

I agree, as long as it doesn't get out of hand. I wouldn't mind seeing ads, but popups; especially the ones that Firefox misses, drive me fucking crazy.

Of course, if you use the adblock extension with firefox, you never have to see them. I just found out the other day that imagevenue now has ads on it.

I don't think Diz would ever make a pop-up ad.

As long as I'm a sponsor member, I better not see one ad.

Obviously, someone who is a sponsor has paid their dues to the site. As far as leechers go, slap the fucking ads all over their screens.

As a sponsor member I get frustrated when I have to wait 20 some seconds for pageloads because the 280,000 non-paying members of the site are leetching the fuck out of the it.

Without further revenue to keep up bandwidth for the whole site there should be some bandwidth throttling for non-sponsor boobie leetching members.

But hopefully you at least agree that only the non-sponsors should get the ads, right?

Absolutely. When I pay I don't want to see ads. I was just stating that I'd love for WBW to start collecting money from all those people who use the site but don't contribute, and if that is done in the form of Ad revenue I'd be all for that.

It does suck though that while sponsor prices are going up the services offered to non-paying members are staying static, while site performance has times of serious lag.

There shouldn't be and won't be ads for paying members.

I completely agree. Ad the hell out of the leechers, and make diz some money.
