Explain to me: How is it possible that a Mac cannot contain nor contract a virus, worms, trojans, spyware or malware?

that's a personal choice. The computer can actually only use one processor at a time, so it doesn't really make much difference. But if you decide to go with the Dual Core, wait a few months until all of the issues are worked out.

Pssst. Don't try to arque with a mac-a-holist. They can't admit the truth sometimes, like the people driving Mercedes-Benz.

Im not familiar with Macs at all. I was just curious how it's possible to NOT contract a virus using a Mac.

They do use the same internet, right?

Viruses, worms, trojans, spyware, and malware are written for a specific OS. Unlike Windows, Unix has always had a very strong security model of closing all ports, making use of a permission system, and is very strict on System wide modification.

Take for example:

If a Mac were a person, and it just met someone, it would invite that person over sometime, keep them under constant surveillance.

If a Windows box were a person, and it just met someone, it would give them its social security number, id, house and car keys, then leave that person alone in its house.

Think of it this way, you can't jam a SNES cartridge into a Playstation. Can malware be made for the Mac? Yes, but it won't work well or at all. For it to work it would have to require system administration access, that means you would actually have to approve the software's modifications.

If you double click something entitled "nakedpic0001.jpg" and it all of a sudden pops up with a request for administrator access, that is a red flag to anyone with common sense.

Windows fans have been claiming for years and years saying as Mac OS X became more popular a virus would show up. Its now 5 years later, 8 contests done and failed, and not a single virus for the Mac yet.

99% of viruses are written to exploit the Windows (DOS based) operating system. Macs use a linux based OS, which until recently ws pretty much [blacklisted]om viruses.

There are no viruses, trojans, spyware, or any other malwares for the Mac. Saying otherwise is outright lies.

you're right of course. How dare I tell people they had viruses and trojans when Apple was giving me information that said so? And that their systems had crashed and they needed to reinstall the OS? What could I possibly have been thinking?

and don't EVEN get me started on AirPort.......

Yeah sure you are. Because you know, no one ever lies on the web. I doubt you know anything about Macs. You already proved you don't know what you are talking about. Any and every Mac related site would be laughing at you for a long, long, long time.

I've been using Apple products since the Apple IIe, I have owned, and still maintain many more macs than you have ever touched.

And you also right, I didn't work for VincitiAQ, a company that had a support contract for Apple.

in fact, I didn't even type this.

and I never said I maintained Macs, just that I did tech support and troubleshooting for them. Which was mostly READING FROM OFFICIAL APPLE DOCUMENTAION.

Well for one thing its not just Apple that says so. Its all over. Please find one legitament virus for the Mac. Not some in the lab proof of concept that has never been in the wild. Find me a real Mac virus. Something that can actually infect me. Right here, right now I'll run it on my machine without any protection. Hell I'll even log in as Root and turn off my firewalls.

Well obviously you weren't, thats why you lied. Average Mac user almost never has to reinstall the OS, just update.
