Sources say a Hollywood press conference in one week will announce a 50-date American arena tour by Van Halen to begin in early October. The tour will feature founding Van Halen members David Lee Roth, Eddie Van Halen and Alex Van Halen, with Eddie's son Wolfgang on bass.

A proposed summer amphitheater tour by the group, first tipped here in late January, never got off the ground, with Eddie Van Halen entering a rehabilitation facility for undisclosed reasons in March.

In the months since, the artist has been seen publicly looking healthy and fit, and Billboard.com reported a month ago that several arena holds were in place in major markets for potential Van Halen dates.

Van Halen last toured in 2004 with vocalist Sammy Hagar, grossing nearly $40 million, according to Billboard Boxscore. Roth has not fronted the band on tour in more than 20 years.

I saw them in concert back in 2004 when Sammy was lead singer. Awesome time! I'll always take Sammy over Diamond Dave any single day.

On the news today. Said they would be hitting Asia and Europe after playing there U.S. dates. Also Eddie's son Wolfgang would be playing base. Than hitting the studio to cut a new record after the tour is over.

So how long is it going to be before Eddie Van Halen gets totally disgusted with DLR & kicks him out again?

OK.. granted... Van Halen was best when Diamond Dave was lead singer... but I am now placing bets as to how long it takes before this tour implodes... Eddie Van Halen's drinking is legendary. And, IMO, it's only a matter of time, even with his son playing bass. Don't get me wrong, though... I sincerely hope I am wrong!

IMHO they were never as good after DLR was kicked out. Sure he's got an ego as big as...but let's get real...a rock group without a egomaniacal front man?

Eddie Van Halen went to rehab in March/April of this year. He's supposedly sober - at least I'm hoping so. Valerie Bertinelli is keeping a close eye on Wolfie during this tour....

Cool. I last saw Van Halen (w/ S.H.) in concert sometime around 1995 and I remember it being a great show. Hopefully this tour goes well.

So who's the front man now? Don Dokken, or Mark Slaughter?
