Well such an amazing tournament already with so many shocks and so many big names out

Who do you think will win the World Cup in Brazil?

Well now that England have limped out (no surprise there), I would like to see Colombia do well. I have found them to be the most enjoyable team to watch so far.

I think Germany will be difficult to beat (as usual) and France have been playing quite well in parts. Argentina seem to have stumbled into the knockout stages but I fully expect them (with Messi's help) to start playing properly now, and Brazil of course should be there or there abouts. That being said, I've not really been impressed with them just yet so will be interested to see how they cope when they play the better teams...

Well, you know what Lineker said right?

Football is a simple game. Twenty-two men chase a ball for 90 minutes and at the end, the Germans always win.

I hope the Dutch will win, even though it's not the attractive football they should play.

What seems to be exciting about this particular World Cup is that there hasn't been a team that has looked unbeatable. No dominant force. As I mentioned before, France and Germany have had decent victories where they've played really well, but both have also looked beatable in other matches. The Netherlands have been quite similar.

As an American who never really watched much soccer, I have to say, I've enjoyed the World Cup so far. Unfortunately, many of the best matches are taking place while I'm working but I try to catch what I can in the evenings and weekends. I went with some friends to a local bar last Sunday to watch the US/Portugal match and it was great to see everyone in thw whole place going crazy for the US national team. The game-tying goal in the final seconds was a bit disheartening but it was still a very entertaining game. I only got to see about a half of the US/Germany match. Where a lot of other teams seem to rely on athleticism, the German team was precise and pinpoint with their passing. Definitely a well oiled machine.

thjats the germans for you, precision and to the point but have been unlucky in the previous editions, 2010, 2006 but glad spain got to go home early, and I would say the Netherlands, they balanced, youth, experience and a coach who is taking over Manchester United but my two teams is brazil and Netherlands, don't like or hate the germans but they to strong for me to favour and argentina is gonna get whipped by the germans again, that would be awesome just like the previous editions as they extremely unbalanced and if it was not for messi they probably would not have made the knock out stages - so brazil and Netherlands make me proud since South Africa cant be there

I would like to express my feelings on the World Cup in the form of stealing some other dude's tweets.

Another beautiful day in Recife, if you have gills. Seriously lousy conditions, especially for the keepers. #USAvGER

Really feel bad for fans today. Epic rain, long trip to stadium in the middle of nowhere, longer trip back. For diehards only.

Thinking Recife should have built sewers and roads instead of a stadium an "hour" outside of city. Approaching debacle-level chaos.

The few, the proud, the very very wet. That's a road not a river.

From Brazilian on my bus, looking at US fans wading in water: "There is a disease you get from rat piss and they are going to get it."

I was really hoping Chile would do better at this world cup, but for the 3rd fucking time in a row, we face Brazil in the knock out stage
Chile have played better, specially in the qualifiers....but its a mental issue when playing Brazil. I think it will be a south american final either way

Uruguay seems pretty hungry but my money is on Germany or Holland.

I have a feeling the pressure may get to Brazil. Perhaps not necessarily in the Chile game, but I don't think they're guaranteed to make the final.

Wonder how much it cost to get the Brazil team to throw that game?

Yeah, but it was too easy to predict. Everyone in Brazil expected them to win the World Cup. 2nd place isn't good enough. If the Brazilian players were to have won, the celebrations would have been fairly muted as that is what they were expected to do. Add to that a vast majority of the population can't understand why some many hundreds of millions of dollars have been spent on hosting the tournament (not to mention the Olympics) and hardly anything has been done to improve the lives of the residents (as promised). Then they lose their most influential player to injury and their captain to suspension and you could just see it happening. I certainly didn't see Germany scoring 7 goals, but Brazil losing was certainly on the cards.
