Just wondering if anyone has some tips to share with me concerning DVD Recorders,

i'm looking into buying one and i'm kinda lost.

Some things i'm curious about :

1 - Does it record to HD and then allows you to burn to DVD?
(and can you edit it while on hd?)

2 - can i hook it up to my pc?
(i dont have a DVD burner, so could i use the recorder's burner for pc stuff? iso's etc)

3 - with or without internal HD? i've seen types without HD's so just curious

4 - DVD+R DVD-R DVD-RW DVD+RW???
(too many burning formats!!)

5 - Best model? worst model?

well i hope someone can give me some helpfull pointers..

i'm interested in buying one for 2 reasons,
1 - i want to convert my tapes to DVD/VCD/SVCD data
2 - i'd like to use it as a DVD burner for my pc
(these things cost too much to buy 2 dvd burners)

well thats about it.

thanks for reading

Are you talking about set top (stand alone) DVD recorders which sit on top of the TV, or are you talking about DVD Burners which go in your computer (or connect directly to it). Hmmmmm, I must be really tired cause I just re-read your post and it seems like you're talking about stand alone units. Right now I'd say if you don't need it then don't get it, it's not worth the extra cash right now and the speeds are just starting to speed up. I know with electronics you can always say to wait b/c something better will be coming out but b/c of the whole speed issue I think its better to wait right now. Look at computer CD-RWs The difference between a 24x and 48x isn't really that much, either one is fine. However the difference between an 4x and a 12x is night and day as far as how long you have to wait. Not too long ago DVD burners finally came out with 2x, then fairly recently they moved up to 4x, now I'm starting to see 8x. I'd wait a little more and then get a solid, fast burning one, at a lower price then you'd get now.

Damn, I'm tired, sorry if that made no sense, but I got up early this morning and I'm falling asleep here. I'll double check my post tomorrow if I remember too

Vamp if your going to buy one put it in your pc its alot more useful that wayabout $200.00 will get you one of the new 12-16X,depending on brand Pioneer is good but Plextor is with out a doubt the best for pc, it also requires software like replicant if your planning on burning DVD movies to disk thats about $75-100.00

Recorders you put in a TV usually don't have HD's, if they do, they cost a lot more!
And those things usually don't connect with PC, atleast i haven't ever seen one..:/

I suggest you buy a DVD+-RW for your computer, you can also convert videotapes with it, just have to have the right equipment.

Nowadays you can get a recorder that burns DVD-RW/R DVD+RW/R and then there is yet DVD-RAM that is on marginal use...
