Australian doctors are considering introducing a controversial form of genital mutilation carried out on baby girls.

The Royal Australian New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG) says the practice of "ritual nicks" could meet the cultural needs of some women and potentially save some people from drastic surgery.

The practice is said to be common among some African, Asian and Middle Eastern communities but has been known to leave some young girls scarred for life when not carried out in proper clinical facilities.
RANZCOG said the issue would be discussed at a women's health meeting in June, Sydney's Daily Telegraph reports.

This practice may be common in backward communities but it should be illegal here. Only medically necessary surgery should be performed on people under the age of consent. Then people can decide if they want their bits chopped off for artistic or cultural reasons.

i'm circumcised and i'm glad it happened when i was a baby cause that shit would suck having to do it now... but as for women i think they're vages should be left as is...

Male circumcision has at least some medical backing (there are studies regarding serious urinary infections and some STD that point to circumcision as a factor that lowers risk in males due to it making keeping the area clean easier) but there is NO medical reason for female circumcision. NONE! I have found not one medical study showing any benefit from it. I personally think that most women who do it later in life do it out of obligation and not because it is something they want. It's only purpose is to stop a woman from being capable of orgasm (or at least impede that ability tons). It's control, plain and simple.

The only argument for it seems to be that people are going to do it anyway so if doctors do it at least it will be taken care of in a less destructive or dangerous way. But that is a bullshit argument that could apply to anything illegal. Just show where it is better to have someone do it in a safer way and it becomes legal and normal. Whomever is thinking of doing this is a politically correct pussy who should have their fun bits cut off and shoved down their throat.

Female Circumcision is not legal in many, many countries even in the Middle East and Africa so way would a First World country even contemplate this. the people who are suggesting this should have their dicks cut off completely and see if they like it. (some forms of female circumcision involve removal of the clitoris)

For females it should not be called Circumcision, it should be called "Mutilation".

In Australia this article attracted significant public condemnation of the practice outlined including calls for greater involvement of child protection agencies and for prosecution of any doctors engaged in this activity.
