Just a post to ask the question how was Christmas? was it good or was it just another suck ass day? As an american of German decent ( very German family ) I find the standard American Christmas to be a real downer. It seames that we (Americans) are to preoccupied with the big commerical Christmas and not the real things that christmas is about. any thoughts?

Despite my extended family and friends, my wife and I celebrated Christmas without the tree, the lights or the suicide runs to the mall. Sure, we bought presents but we exchange them as soon as we bought them because that is not the big deal about Christmas.
I know for one thing, we are $0 in debt because of Christmas.

I usually dont celebrate christmas when its just me and my girlfriend, she usually goes with family or hers comes into town, once in awile I go home for the holidays myself, but its never for the presents, its just because that is the easiest time for everyone to get together in all the family, me being of russian and greek decent, I must say it is sort of a hassle to go home for the holidays now with airport security the way it is.
my father moved back to russia when the steal industry went belly up here, so now I dont have any family here in america, to me, if anything christmas isnt about religion, some fat guy in a suit, hallmark cards, trees, presents, or lights, its just about getting to really enjoy the company of friends, family, and loved ones, thats it.
so saying that, it was pretty lonely, but my girlfriends family was in town so we celebrated with them, all in all, it was a pretty good holiday..

Well I am getting the reponse I had hoped for. M.D. I wish you and your family the best. The important issue is that you celebrated with family ( not yours but a family) it can get real loanly without others

I am thankful for the joyful and prosperous year past, and looking forward to next year. I am also wishing better times for those less fortunate.
