Anyone know a cheap way to get broadband? This 56k is getting on my nerves.

We had 28kps dial up.
And now we have Road Runner cable and I would rather not have ANY internet than go back to dial up.
$40 a month and it's worth every penny.
It's nice to get mp3's in 3 minutes compared to the 45 it used to take.
And some of these sites that post like 200 pics on one page would take 5 minutes to load, now they load in 10 seconds.
Our Road Runner is about as cheap as I've seen, some places will cut you a deal to leave your other provider. Some places offer high speed at dial up price.
There must some place in your area, how much can you afford?
What about DSL from your phone company?

Our phone company wants 60 a month for dsl. My cable company wants 40 a month for a 256k download. That's why I don't want to pay for it.

$40.00 a month is average, If you have some neighbors chip in on it and get wireless enet, or wifi, Earthlink caims to have the fastes dialup, and some of the download acceleraters work well too... Just some thoughts.

Earthlink is shit(sorry just my opinion) see the problem is that my cable company has a cheaper plan but it only was offered for a short period of time and I missed that window, and even though we have been a customer of thiers since they first opened, they won't give it to me. I was just hoping there would be something for about thirty a month for at least a 256k line.

Well your only 10.00 dollars off. So bite the bullet, you will be glad you did.

or try and call them and say you got an offer from another company saying that theyd give you a line for 30, but youve been a loyal customer and would like to stay with them. they just have to give you the line for 30 bucks. its worth a shot, and no company likes to lose a customer when given a choice.

I already tried that, they were just like "whatever". they don't really give a shit I guess.

I live in the sticks... my house is over a hundred years old, and our phone lines are original. On dial-up I only get 26.4k because the phone lines won't go any better than that. haha it's so bunk! Here at school we're on a T1, and I stay up all night so I get it mostly to myself.
I don't even think I can get broadband at my house. It sucks.
