Were talking about METAL, even though Black Sabbath are really the instigators of the WHOLE movement, my pick has to remain, the 80s' Sabs... Celtic Frost and Tom G. Warrior's Into the Pandemonium. If you followed this Swiss band, you know it's a critic's choice as well as fans!!

Randy Rhodes IMO still is one of the most influential guitarists in metal, who unfortunately was taken from this world far too soon for him to truly shine. Zakk Wylde is without doubt one of the best there is today as well. anything from Black Label Society is worth listening to.

Correction again, It's a pet peeve regarding music, I'm passionate you know. Ask any Jackson guitar fan and they'll straighten you out... Randy Rhoads and the classic Rhoads V that Zakk Wylde, for example, got as a recent gift from his wife!!

Great album, I was pretty crazy at that time. A lot of metalheads couldn't grasp it.

I saw them open for Metallica on the Justice tour and they got booed except when James went out and played War Pigs with them. My cousin and I were two of just a handful of people that stood up and applauded them at the end of thier set.

I was converted!

White Zombie - Astro-Creep 2000

From start to end, the best metal album ever. Every song something different, every song metal as hell.

Did anyone else know that Queensryche was making "Operation: Mindcrime II"?

If they pull it off, they could bring themselves back to the front after years of relatively bland albums...

It has to rock the right way, and follow the story coherently. Otherwise, backe to bargain bin material...

i red everything and found many things that i like and don't like.... in metal it's really hard to pick just one LP as a favorite and not mention tons of others.... anyway, in my humble opinion
Manowar-Hail to England
Venom-Wellcome to Hell
Bathory-Hammerheart and Under the Sign of the Black Mark (R.I.P. Quorthon...)
Immortal-Pure Holocaust
Deicide-Deicide
Sodom-ALL (ok, i'll pick Agent Orange)
and many others........

Too hard to pick a favorite.

I liked the fact that HighGuy tossed in the late 80's early 90's thrash. Anyone into that era/style should check out Municipal Waste out of Richmond, VA. Their 2005 album "Hazardous Mutation" was my favorite album of the year.

I was also interested to see Ascaris toss in Immortal. \m/

To everyone that said Metallica, I would agree that their first three albums were amazing, but to say they were the best ever would suggest to me that you haven't been exposed to a lot of true metal.

AC/DC were definately better during the Bon Scott years, as someone already said, all of those records shit on Back in Black.

Oh, by the way, Korn is not metal, rap-rock is not metal, nu-metal is not metal.

Anyway, my list for now:

Municipal Waste - Hazardous Mutation
Slayer - Reign in Blood
Bloodbath - Resurrection Through Carnage
Bolt Thrower - War Master
Death - Leprosy
Entombed - Left Hand Path or Wolverine Blues
Napalm Death - From Enslavement to Obliteration
....
I could go on and on, too many to name but I had to add my two cents.
