I won't be eating any shit (outside of the general allowances for food production.)
Just because China has some fancy railways doesn't mean that they're the be-all-end-all of the future.
They can't support their growth for long enough to actually become the world leader.
This is my opinion here, but the fact that they do all these fancy high-speed bullshit things is in an effort to convince the world that they are the next big thing. It's all a show. Like military parades to demonstrate the size and scope of an Army *cough*N.Korea* *cough*Soviets*cough*
Yes, they are growing. Yes, they consume more steel and concrete than the rest of the world. But what does that actually mean?
They can't advance it indefinitely, or convert it into a sustainable level.
Could they? Maybe. It's been a very long time, so I might be out of touch. But just because someone operates a super fast train (Japan and France still have the records for fastest trains) doesn't mean that they are the world leader in living.
What should our course of action be? Create a faster train? It means absolutely nothing.
What about grain production? The European Union produces more grain than the rest of the world. Why are trains more indicative of global power than wheat?
The European Union has a higher GDP than the US, which is still nearly 2.5x that of China.
China, generally, is just a big scary misunderstood sensationalist topic for tbe news to report and the people to be concerned about because they don't eat apple pie or look like WASPs.
