OK, Now that I've read all this bullshit, here's a few hard facts from someone in the medical field. But first, Honda X it's a wonder you haven't gained 600 pounds just off your rage. You're at least looking at high blood pressure or a heart attack. In that sense a lot of the overweights have you beat. they're more laid back.
Yes, most of the fat people in this country could live a better lifestyle and "LOOK" a whole lot better. However, besides the ethnic and genetic components (Yes, they are real) There are other medical conditions that can cause gross weight gain. #1 (this ones for you Honda X) There are a lot of people being treated for depression and bi-polar disorders. Many of those medications they use can cause severe weight gain. Nest time you see a fat person why don't you go up and ask them. That ought to do wonders for their self -esteem.
#2 In a lot of diabetic people that condition alone will cause weight gain. #3 Injuries can play a role. Myself for instance. Many years ago I injured my knee I was young, single and most of all had no medical insurance. For a number of years I was fine, but eventually my knee deteriorated. 10 years ago I was a slolom water-skier and did multi-day backpack hikes through Yellowstone. One year ago, I could walk about 50 feet before the pain stopped me. My weight of course, as I could do less and less, went up and up. Fortunately, I was finally able to get a knee replacement and have lost 70 pounds just from being able to walk again. Many others aren't so lucky.
Bottom line is... How do you know which is which? You don't. period, end of story.

My Story:

I'm 5' 11", 20 years ago I weighed 135 lbs. Never exercised and smoked 2 packs a day.

10 years ago I weighed 265 lbs. never exercised, ate what I wanted and had given up smoking for 3 years.

Today, I weigh 265 lbs. have had a membership at the gym (for the past two years) that I use every other day, I walk to and from work (45 min a day round trip), watch what I eat and still don't smoke.

So, I would say sometimes no matter what a person does their weight is just their weight.

My biggest motivator is that they say for every 20 lbs. you loose your dick looks 1 inch bigger, so I'm trying to get down to 200 so my dingdong can look 13".

I like how the ones who strike back at the nay sayers are fat! And as always have some type of an excuse! And also get plenty of exercise and watch what they eat. Obviously your not exercising enough if your not atleast losing inches aka fat and you must be watching everything you eat in the mirror! Unless you have some type gland disorder or are paralyzed Diet and exercise you will lose FAT. I dont mean working out by walking to the fridge and getting your one candy bar for the day. As far as diabetes I hope that the one that said that is aware that the majority of people diagnosed with diabetes are already obese! My fiance is diabetic has the childhood onset at age of 4. She did gain weight by her teens but with diet and exercise is slim and trim and she will be the first to tell you her being fat as a teen was pure and simply from sitting on her ass and over eating not diabetes!

To me its simple biological processing. Eat more calories than you burn and you will in general put on weight, eat less calories than you burn and you will generally lose weight.

Like other posters I agree that people who have a legitimate reason (not metabolism I hasten to add) for being on the large side deserve a little sympathy, however if they then chose to eat shit and not exercise (if they can) to help themselves then they are in the same category as those that chose to eat 15 fried eggs, 7 rashers of bacon and 37 slices of toast for breakfast.

Otherwise I simply want to tell people to tape their mouth shut, get off their lazy arse and go for a walk, then a jog, then a run.

PROBLEM SOLVED!!

On a different note, I remember a topic not too long ago which had a similar title but was simply slagging Americans off in general. That thread was pulled off the site as it was deemed offensive so I am just wondering how this one has lasted so long?

I have known 1 overweight person who had it caused by glandular problems, and he wasn't HUGE, he was just chubby. my problem is with the people who are so fat they get puffed from walking around a shopping centre and take up entire aisles in stores. I believe that genetics can cause you to be pre-disposed (note to all "medical workers" here: genetics only predisposes you to be a certain way, lifestyle is the main cause of weight problems. Fact.), to being overweight, but quit bitching about it and exercise!

I walk every single day and I see tonnes of skinny people out walking as well, I have yet to see an obese/overweight person out walking, they're all the ones driving past to get to the fast food place up the road.

I'm 5'10" and weigh 135 pounds, eat 2-3 meals a day (i do this weird thing where i only eat a meal if i'm hungry, strange i know!) and don't normally have snacks in between meals. I work with a lady who is 5'2" and weighs 140 pounds, they eat 3-4 meals a day and are constantly snacking during the day, they do no exercise at all. Then they turn around and whinge because they're gaining weight.

it has been said before and it is medical fact, unless you have a glandular problem you CANNOT gain weight if the calories you consume are the same or less then the calories you burn via exercise.

My biggest problem with fat people is they don't see anything wrong with destroying their own health by not having the willpower to stop eating so much. simply put, I believe you have every right to have an issue with poor lifestyle choices. We don't say to smoker or alcoholics "oh it's not your fault you don't have the willpower to stop". we tell them to kick the fucking habit and try to stop killing themselves.|

And yes you fat people, you are killing yourselves by refusing to exercise and be healthy.

one of my best friends is about 180 cm tall and weights arround 140 kilos.does he eat a lot? yes and drinks a lot too. is he lazy? no. he works very heavy at constructions, can take 3 cement bags on his shoulder and carry em on 5 floor, where others start to groan with only one of them. do i think he should loose weight? no, why? if he feels good , where is the problem? oh, and if you wanna have fun, then call him fat but then you better run for your life.

what some people seem to be missing is weight does not equal fat. Someone can have a lot of muscle and be a large person, but they're not an overweight lazy bastard

Agreed. Plenty of hefty NFL players that likely have the heart rate/BP of a teenager. I'm talking about the guys/women that can't see their genitals without a mirror. I know of two guys who died of penis cancer. They had to have their dicks cut off. How sad is that.

Story time.

I was a small kid in my youth. Always very skinny. I played football, baseball, soccer, basketball and ran track. I was always in sports. I did three years of Tae Kwon Do. I was good!

But I'm 5'11 and at the time I weighed 110 pounds, if that.

They told me I couldn't play football. I was too small. I'd get creamed. This isn't true. I hit like a mother fucker and had zero fear. I had great instincts. I was fast and could jump incredibly high. But the coach thought I was too small. He was afraid I'd get hurt. He benched me. I never played again.

After I graduated I went into the military. I weighed about 113 or so by then. In order to keep my job in the military I had to meet a certain weight requirement. I think it was 135. I worked my ass off. I was taking in several thousand calories per day and worked out every day at least once a day, usually twice, rotating the muscle groups to give them rest. I ate constantly and had a specially designed diet to help me gain weight. I could bench press well over twice my body weight. I could easily carry rucks that weighed 70 pounds for ten mile marches, plus my combat gear. I never once fell out of a march. I could carry anyone in my unit.

But they were going to kick me out of my career field because I was too light.

I worked my ass off - and I never did make my weight. Each time I went in, I had to count on the sympathy and kindness of the doctor to fudge the results. They always asked the same things:

"Do you not watch what you eat? Don't you work out? Do you fall out of marches? Do you have any shortness of breath? Do you have trouble doing push-ups? Do you have injuries on your medical record (are you too fragile)?

The answers were always the same.

"Yes, I'm on a strict diet. I work out constantly. I've never fallen out. I can swim like a fish. I never have trouble with push-ups, sit-ups, pull-ups or runs. I've never had a single day of medical leave for any reason."

They'd check my record, scratch their heads, and send me on my way with my completely bull-shitted physical and a weight of 136, despite that I was by this time - MAYBE 125. I think I got to 133 by the time my enlistment was up.

The month I got out of the military I kept working out (habit) and was still in great shape. Despite that, however, I immediately dropped back down to 115 pounds within 30 days. I didn't stop eating. I didn't stop exercising. I didn't stop working my ass off.

I'm 35 now. I'm still 5'11" tall, and am willing to bet I can beat the shit out of the vast majority of the people that are members of this board. I currently weigh 125 pounds. But bear in mind that less than 15 minutes ago I finished eating 1.5 pounds of steak, two loaded mashed potatoes, three-fourths a gallon of milk, and a cupcake. I eat this (or something like this) at least twice a day, with another small meal in-between, or another large meal in-between.

My typical order at the drive-in for McD's is four double cheeseburgers, a big fry and a giant coke, and I can eat well over three such orders in a single day. I still work out (sometimes), and can still bench my own weight (or more). But I weigh 125 pounds - and this is the most I have ever weighed aside from the physiological "experiment" I was on in the military.

Not everyone can control their weight, and what I see posted above in this thread is nothing but judgmental ignorance of that reality.

People are not fat because they are lazy. If it were that fucking easy to fix, they'd have done it by now.

I hate you.

Its a disability! I want my government check! I ride in the old people chairs at the grocery store and park in the reserved parking lot! Everyone pity my fat ass that I can't see my toes and never have leftovers because I eat the chicken bones and all! Wrap my legs with kevlar to keep them from breaking!
