I quite like some of the Beatles stuff, but John Lennon and his hypocrisy stink. 'Imagine' was supposed to be one of the great peace songs, but profits from the single went partly to NORAID and some to THORN EMI who made nuclear weapons guidance systems. Lennon should have been prosecuted, not shot.

Like MOST artists... Lennon was a complicated man. He wrote a LOT of great songs..... did some fantastic social commentary. Sorely missed by me. I remember the day well.

John Lennon was not a perfect guy but what he did well was transfer his feelings to records amazingly well and through his records. part of his attraction was that he was often in termoil and people could relate to him. He seemingly opened himself up to the media etc and invited people in to his life and i think thats why people empathised with him.. ohh, and the fact he was in the biggest band in the world helped too!

i always wonder what his comments would be on todays society or on the war on terror, no doubt he would be spitting bullets!

I was 8 years old. My parents werent fans, nor were any of my friends or their parents so I dont really have any recollection of his death. Im the icon of neutral when it comes to his life. Not a fan, not a hater. It is a pretty cool pic though.

Where in the hell did you come up with this?? I've never heard anything like that, and I was 24 when John was killed. Assassinated, actually. A neighbor came over and told me about it. At first, I thought he was just talking shit. He did that a lot. But then ,we turned on the TV, and there it was. Sad day, indeed!!

Guys, it's well documented that Lennon supported the IRA and contributed to NORAID - thought that was common knowledge.

You can find links here -

(scroll down on that one)

How about this quote from - http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/IRELAND/2000-12/0976391963

> Following Bloody Sunday in 1972 when British soldiers shot dead 13 civil
> rights demonstrators, Lennon recorded the song Sunday Bloody Sunday, and he
> donated the royalties of another song, Luck of the Irish, to Irish causes.
>
> According to some reports Lennon's backing for Irish causes extended to
> significant donations to republican support groups, including Noraid, which
> gave financial assistance to the IRA. The FBI has even released parts of
> their 300-page dossier on his supposed activities.

I'll give that one a rest for now - but there are actually videotaped interviews where he admits it too...

As for Apple/EMI...

Come on guys, just Google 'Thorn EMI' (you know EMI, right?) and 'Radar, Guidance Systems, Nuclear, etc...

Hope that helps...

Keep supporting peace... buy John Lennon records - Just IMAGINE where your money goes!

WTF .......... Just because you have issues with certain parts of Lennon WBW is NOT political!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't be so naive BiBi... the whole world is corrupt when you get rich enough!!!! Who the hell are you to make this political. As much as I disdain most/all right wingers.... if this was a thread to memorialize Reagan (for example)..... I would have the class to just bite my tongue and move on.

Apologies - I wasn't aware that politics weren't allowed here. I'll steer clear of the subject in future. Just that most of the music I've listened to is political in some way.
