I am looking to buy an American made truck. Thinking Dodge has the best engine; I would appreciate some opinions from those who would know...

Dodge hands down, they took a motor that was built for something bigger and put it in a smaller truck, unlike ford/chevy they built a motor for that size truck, My dad has a 2003 dodge ram 2500 deisel long box 4 door, and we haul a 33 foot travel trailer that weight 10 500lbs around, we go up ton quebec and far far awya places?( like over 12 hours alot..) tows it like nothing... I was talking to some of my Ford loving friends, and they said to by either a Chevy or Ford this year. I guess they are changing out the engines in 07s. Everyone is saying the transmission on a Dodge sucks...

The cummins is going to be the best motor you can get but the tranny isnt the greatest... the new 07 Duramax is going to be different from what i hear and the Allison tranny that Chevy uses is almost indestructable. Ford is switching to a twin turbo platform i believe but they will only run one turbo at a time... the first will be for low end and the second for high end as opposed to the VG (variable geometry) turbo that you find on the duramax that adjusts itself to almost eliminate turbo lag. this is all just from what ive heard and some of what ive experienced...

Well lets see, i've driven countless miles in an ambulance on a Ford chassis with very few problems with the engine, and a lot of miles in an armored truck on an International chassis with no major problems, so i'd take either one !

Here is the deal bro. My brothers and I own a large Landscape and Construction company in Kentucky, USA. You can look us up on the web if ya want. More Than Mulch, INC, MTM Properties, INC, MTM Nurseries, LLC. And soon MTM Construction. We have 23 trucks right now. 28 employees. Here is everything you need to know about trucks. If you are going to use your truck for work then you need to go with ford/ international. Ford has the best rep for being a great work truck. We have 18 fords, 3 internationals, and 2 isuzus. The 7.3 Ford is amazing. One of the best ever made. The 6.0 isnt that great, but if you are buying new then think warranty on these too. The new ford coming out in 07 is a 6.2 or 6.4. It is going to be the super diesel. Now onto Chevy trucks. The Allison is an OMG wow tranny. But you can get that trany on some bigger fords with the cat motor, cummins motor, or ford motor. The duramax is nice, but doesnt have tradition. Chevy is the smoothest and most comfortable to drive. Now onto dodge. You have a lot of dodge fans on here who dont have the experience that I have with trucks. They like what their daddy has and thinks its the best. Dodge doesnt even own cummins anymore, ford does. But dodge doesnt have a tranny, or a very comfortable truck. More people who think OH dodge, yeah big and loud, end up thinking, maybe its time for chevy or ford. Dodge has cummins, but has nothing else to go with it. PM me for any questions. Hope this helps out.

I'm a bit partial to Fords...

Dodges have serious tranny problems, they have alot of trouble getting something to hold up, especially if the engine gets built up at all.

Chevys, well there's a builder I know who got one and had nothin but trouble with it between the engine, tranny, and everything else. And yes, it is a duramax with the allison tranny.

well here's my .02...while Cummins makes a nice motor...The Ford is the all around best choice. If you can wait and/or afford to wait until the '08 models come out Ford is totally overhauling their truck...can the best get better? We'll see....
