For making the exhaust manifold and the catalytic converter one solid unit on my Civic. That's a nice $600 part. Anyways I found a replacement part for half the cost. Its an aftermarket part. Question. When I opened the box, it says not ODBII compliant. I suspect that will piss off my computer, but I'm hoping it will run okay. Any thoughts?

It should be fine. But I have no idea what any of this means.

as long as its from a reputable company, there shouldn't be an issue. i had trouble with the off brand stuff before.

Damnit, I was hoping I would get advice from a newbie. Now I have to be nice to you guys for awhile. Thanks for the votes of confidence, the replacement parts are a 2 piece set, versus the stock 1 piece manifold/cat combo. Parts look good, I contemplated just buying some low end headers, but then I would have to buy a separate cat and get exotic with the piping, I didn't want to go there. I'm putting it in next weekend, I'll let you guys know how it goes. My manifold is cracked, and it "putters" when I drive, until the car warms up. If anyone else has any advice/suggestions, please let me know.

If I knew anything about cars, I'd give you some.

how many oxygen sensors are there on axhaust ? is there one on the header and possibly a second someplace down the pipe? The aftermarket may not have same spots made for them.. U'll get check engine light prolly if u leave one off ... wont help u pass smog down the road ... hehe good luck . sometimes companies put crap (not-smog legal/non OBDII stickers) simply to protect themselves, in case u do end up failing smog and try to blame them. Anyway, good chance u'll have no problem at all as long everything hooks up alright.

Yeah, everything looks right, and there is a hole on each part for the oxygen sensors.

go to a junkyard and get a ex/si manifold, get the down pipe too. youll get more power out of it and itll probably cost ya about $40

i gave up hondas when i sold my old prelude (worthless piece of unreliable garbage) and bought a real car - 96 Trans Am WS6. wasn't much fun to work on, but it would run right by pretty much anything else

SoCal, you've got the 96-00 red Civic right? If your ecu is an OBDII (pre'98 iirc) then the new parts may cause you to throw a CEL. (check engine light on gauge cluster will light up). By saying it's not obdii compliant probably means that the cat won't be filtering like a normal/legal one, causing the 2nd o2 sensor to redflag the ecu with the cel. It should be fine to run like that though, your engine will just be putting emitting more emissions than your suppose to.

What company built the new parts you bought?

Yes i was expecting a check engine bitching by the computer, but i put it in, and so far so good!

I forget the manufacturer.

Just be wary of a CEL light later down the road. You can build a MIL eliminator for the 2nd O2 sensor to trick it into thinking that the post-cat emissions are kosher. All you need is a few parts from radio shack and a soldering iron. Untrained monkeys can build it while watching chimp porn at the same time, it's easy.

PM me if you have trouble.

I had the schematics for the 02 sim somewhere. If I can find the link I'll be sure to post if up for future reference.
