Right, guys i need some help. I bought a car recently here in South Africa.

Its a 2000 Deawoo Lanos (now i know its not most peoples choice but second hands here are very pricey. and my budget wasn't big. this car was in good nick with low mileage, and in its defence it drives well)

However it does not have a tachometer (rev counter). So i figured i'd buy one of those aftermarket jobbys and dump it on the dash. However, since its fuel injected the car wont have an old fashioned coil. I dont wanna have to import a rev counter from europe and have to make do with local stuff.

Now I vaguely remember you can also attach the pickoff wire to one of the spark leads. basically i need advice on the whole process.

Anyway any advice is greatly appreaciated.

the attached image is similar to the models availiable here: (it el be a four wire jobby; one ground, one for backlight, one pickoff, and one pos.)

I never owned a manual transmission car... so i never felt the need to hook up a tach..So i can't help you other than googling for it myself.

Good luck! (beer)

I have driven many manuals just never owned any... probably the top 3 of the cars i've driven are in order.. 2004 BMW M3 6 speed,2004 mazda RX-8 6 speed, and 1969 Pontiac Firebird with a 400 Big block (terrifyingly fun) and a 4 speed.

if you can feel the car and listen 2 the engine....fuck the tach...
my car didn't even have seatbelts until i installed them, but in it's defence i'll say it was produced in 1977

It has been a while since I wired a tach. Last time was when I was in college. An old 68 Camaro. I'm no help at all sorry to say.
