SUV License Required?

OK... I am not sure how well this will translate for those not in the US, but here in the US there is a HUGE (and rather annoying IMO) trend to getting the biggest SUV (sport utility vehicle) they can. I remember back in the day when a SUV was no bigger than a Jeep Cherokee (not really a SUV, but a Jeep. Just using it as a size comparison) or Ford Explorer (I am not talking about the NEW Ford Explorers, I am talking about the 80's style Exlporer). Now we have graduated to what amounts to Urban Assault Vehicles with such inventions as the Hummer 1 (the H2, while big, is smaller than the H1) and the Ford Excursion! And what has happened? Soccer moms, whose driving was suspect in the first place, are getting behind the wheel of these behemoths and feeling invinsible, mowing down any damn thing that gets in their way. So, I was thinking (dangerous, I know)... In the US, we have to get a special license if we want to drive motorcycles and ANOTHER special license if you want to drive a commercial vehicle (delivery truck or one of the 18-wheelers). So why, oh WHY, don't we require these idiots that have SUV's get a special license to prove they can drive these damn things!

i'll agree.

i drive a full size chevy truck, which i bought because I needed and wanted. there's few things that annoy me more than people who go out and buy the biggest damn vehicle they can find just because they want it.

I'd rather just start blowing up SUV's

Well, being the polite driver that I am, I normally allow room for other drivers if they are trying to get out into the traffic from a side lane or street. I have a problem, though, granting such courtesy to SUV owners. Cars I can see through and around so I don't mind being nice to them and truckers are using their vehicle for a true purpose so I don't mind letting them in front even though it's tougher to drive with them in front...SUVs, on the other, I am unable to see through and they generally don't serve a purpose so I tend to not let them in as much.

It's not much but it's my way of flipping them off.

I'm kinda hoping the higher gas prices stick around long enough to slow the giant-SUV craze. I have a feeling that people are stupid enough to keep buying them anyway.

I just about got run over by some a-hole driving a Hummer yesterday. The f*cker was doing damn near 90 and blowing by everyone. The jerks think they own the road. On the upside remember that these dorks have to dish out a lot of $$$ to keep their precious SUVs filled with gas.

HERE HERE! I agree... I should be the only bastard on the road with an oversized SUV and not have a licence, I am a bogger and my trucks have always been BIG, however watching some of these little women or even men behind the wheel of a Excursion or H1's or anything similar in size is retarded, how do you expect to handle it you couldn't even bench press 50 lbs, all my trucks are big (Just the southern in me) and old and most don't even have power steering, none the less I would have no issue passing that test and I feel everyone should have to take it!

Remember I may be a Redneck... But I am an american 1st (and not racist for the stereotypical ass's who will "ASS"ume that)

Damm and I love my new SUV too, great acceleration, good sight lines, it can go anywhere, lousey brakes though

my parents are paramedics in florida...

my mother told me the other day about a guy driving an h2 fell alseep at the wheel
and drove over the top of a honda

the guy in the hummer was like 70
there was a family in the honda


the h2 hit the honda and the rear wheels pushed the skidplate over the trunk of the hummer... the front wheels hit and pulled the hummer litterally over the top of the honda.... it killed a mother a father a toddler and a baby

Just remeber that not all renecks have big trucks we all like to play with em but having em can be expensive and people who assume things are dumber then the assumption they make, no powere steering huh? lol where do you bog at? we hot the lines near summerville SC and I agree we should have size licences for various vehicles, I had to wait for a 6 month appointment with what we call the DMV (in the south) RMV is a more common phrase up north, for a simple motorcycle licence. I know a few people who got ran down by big SUV's while riding bikes (motorcycles) they same the same thing everyone else says "I didn't see him/her" people are either getting more and more retarded or our nation is 98% blind.... like your flag by the way and agree with an american before a redneck

I think we all see idiots in all types of vehicles.I have seen some women in SUV`s and shouldn`t of been. It is a FREE country and to each their own. It`s up to you to protect yourself and avoid the nuts we all see everyday. My beef is with the Big Rigs and buses. They only account for 35% of all traffic in the U.S., but are involved in 65% of all the accidents here. We all have our own pros and cons, it`s how we cope with them.

Actually in Ontario we do have licensing like that. So far it only applies to this one.

True, Chase... I have a problem with some of the big rig drivers I see out there... I haven't had a problem with a bus YET, but I know someone that had to deal with a hit & run with a school bus once... there are definitely idiots out there... driving all kinds of vehicles... I guess one of the other problems I have with SUVs is the problem of vision... while they can see everything, I can't see ANYTHING over, around or through them! Therefore, I have the worse time seeing if there is traffic coming when I am trying to make a turn if there is a damn SUV next to me!

oh yeah... and being only 5'4", it would take a friggin' rope ladder for me to get into one of those damn things!
